Do You Think Its Fair That The Gov In The Uk Are Now Telling Us What Cars To Drive??

In london they are slapping a congestion charge of £25 per day!! on anyone that has a 4x4 car.

How much more of a nanny state will the Uk become and whats the next thing we are going to be told we can't do?

Answers:
Well, apparently the next thing that is going to happen is that we are going to have to pay more council tax if we have dared to improve our living conditions by improving our homes. If you live in a "nicer area", have a conservatory/deck/patio/a nice view, if you have dared to install an en-suite or second bathroom or a new kitchen, if you have paved over any part of your garden so as to get your car off the road so that you aren't causing an obstruction by parking on the road.they are going to TAX you for it.never mind that you have had to pay for these things to be done in the first place, and indeed, may still be paying for them and that that cost already includes vat @ 17.5%.makes no difference to them.and how are they going to know you have done any of these improvements? It's called spying! They have the eye in the sky and are going to be sending people to our homes, who have the authority to enter our homes whether we like it or not, and they will even be allowed to take photographs. What happens if we don't let them in.we get fined!

Welcome to England.a free country.allegedly!
And you live in a free country like america. Ya right. Here it wouldent pass as it is discrimation on the car I drive and it would be challend in court.
What do I think I think it sucks.
Enjoy what little freedom you have left cause you're slowly losing it everyday.
If you can afford to live in London buy, insure and run a 4x4 chances are you can afford the congestion charge.
no its crap =- i dont know why they dont make it a law for car manufactures to make cleaner greener cars !! surely that would make more sense - if you have loads of money it wont make a differene to you - its the people on the average wage losing out again
democratic society-elected by the people for the people-fair !
do you think it is fair the number of needless 4x4s in central london adding to the pollution problem? surely this is a charge on emissions and not congestion?
The Government hasn't said you CANT drive these cars. It just making people take responsibilty for the impact these cars have on the environment! WHY ON EARTH would you be driving your 4x4 through central London anyway? I forgot. its all those ditches, off road routes and muddy fields!

It's your choice. driving a car like that through central london is totally unnecessary, you're merely paying for the luxury of not taking the responsibilty to think about the enviroment. It's your choice.

I live just 5-10mins outside the Congestion Charge zone, and my work place is just one street into it (how frustrating!)! I've had to stop driving my (small 1.1) car into work as it would cost me £8.00 a day, so have many of my colleagues. The Congestion charge is working and I think it should stay in place. There was no excuse for me driving to work before. it takes the same time (if not less) on a bus! The majority of my colleagues agree, and some of them live as far as Kent and Hertfordshire!
I think its time for "Red Ken" to go along with the rest of the Labour Party.
Who the hell does he think he is and what does it have to do with him what cars people drive.
To even charge anything for driving in,or around this country is disgusting and it is about time the people in this country stood up for themselves and said enough is enough, don't we all pay Tax for our vehicles and massive prices to park everywhere.
All this government seem to do is make us pay, pay, pay and we should wake up and put a stop to all this as it is getting out of hand.
Stand up & be counted! Start an uprising against all the stupidity of the Government & it's anti car culture! People like yourself would join in & tople these loons! We need cars to exist as we do & won't go backwards to horses etc!
This is a really important issue.

If the government don't incentivise cleaner vehicles then the public generally won't drive them. If the public won't buy them it makes it difficult to fund their development also.

The USA is a good example of where the Administration don't take responsibility for incentivising such directions. Interestingly the federal governments are taking a different tact.

Its not a bad thing.
There are a lot of foreign countries telling their citizens what to do. The UK have been watching them and now they want to try it on us. If we don't stand up and say "stuff you", they will get away with it. Next it will be a tax on how many trees and shrubs in your garden. I thank god I left, I can't bear seeing their c.r.a.p anymore.
I don't think it's fair having to put up with constant chronic traffic congestion, foul air, the ugliness and the mess that unrestricted car use has made everywhere. The 'nanny state' hasn't done much to stop that has it? Stop whining - motorists have had it too easy for too long. It's high time people came before cars.
