Should parents on benefits be given a grant to buy a booster seat per child so they can afford it for travel?
Answers:
I don't think so. It's not that expensive.
If Parents on benefits can afford to take their kids to MacDonald's every week then I'm sure they can afford a booster seat for £15.00. Its hard working parents that have trouble finding money for these things!
a Booster is NOT required for taxis and referring to my earlier point if they can afford taxis then.
I think that there are a lot better things for the government to spend the money on.
What are people on benefits doing having children anyway other than creating more burden on the tax payers.
Give us a break.
This is a very good point, although I don't think that they should be just given the money because once the money is granted whose to say that they will buy the booster seats? Maybe if they were given vouchers specifically for a seat and nothing else then yes because as you say it will save lives.
No they should get a job and then buy the booster seat with their wages!
Why not..they seem to get grant's for everything else!
good question why shouldn,t people on benefits get help if it,s going to caude a risk threre child but i agree with the answer above vouchers would be a good ideaand just because people are on benifts jack does not mean they can,t have children foreign people come here and get money so why shouldn,t the people born here
no. they arent that expensive and just because someone is on benefits shouldnt give them automatic freebies for everything.
I work hard but struggle a lot, I could easily go on benefits for health reasons but dont cos I have pride. I struggle with finances, but I found the £20, im sure they can cut back like I did and find the money.
dont you think that lot get enough bloody handouts me and my partner work full time and we get no help
they should all shut the fu ck up and get a job
go on get off your fat lazy ar.ses!!!!!!
NO! But where i live people donate them to the fire dept. to be handed out. I would rather the children be safe than worry about what lousy parents some people are.
No definately not, if you can afford to buy and run a car legally then you can afford to buy the seats required by law.
Definitely not, a booster seat costs £10 from Halfords. If you eat Tesco value for a day or two you will save enough to buy one. And standard boosters last years and years. In fairness, if you could afford the car in the first place, you can afford a booster seat!
if on benifits and running a car then no a grant should not be made avalible .if you can afford to run a car on benifits then your can afford to buy a £15 booster seat for the saftey of your child . but in some cases booster seat or not it makes no differance to the so called responsible parents who still allow small kids to flafff around the car un seated or restrained . more fool the so called responsible parents who allow this to happen when there child goes whizzin through a wind screen. irrisponsibility all to common on our roads
If these parents on benefits can AFFORD TO RUN A CAR then WHY do they GET them, let alone NEED them (the exception being the disabled who need a car to get about in - but I'm talking about the school-run merchants etc).
Sorry, but if you can afford a car, then I don't see why I should have to pay taxes to help keep you in the style to which you've obviously become accustomed.
Yeah, let's give them booster seats. And crash helmets for when they are on their bikes. And knee pads for when they're on their skateboards. And shin guards for when they're playing football. Infact, let's just keep them wrapped in cotton wool then their parents won't have to take any responsibility for them and can carry on sitting outside the pub all day smoking one *** after another, which is what a lot of them do round here. We don't get any benefits as we earn just a bit over the lower limits. We have to pay for every f'''''''ing thing we have, why shouldn't they? How come they can afford better mobile phones than I can?
A while back when my son was ready to switch from car seat to booster seat, I called the health department asking if there was a way to get one when I couldn't afford to buy one. She gave me the number of a female sheriff who ran such a program and she came to our driveway to set it up. Hope your area is able to do the same. Good luck.
Personally, I am now needing to contact them because the law is changing next year in Wa. State and my son hasn't used one for a couple years, now it looks like he may have to get back into it. Not sure yet, because the website says age 8 (or) 4-9 and about 80 pounds as the new requirement apparently is going to be. He is 9 but like 4-3" and 63 lbs. So it is confusing as to does it go by age OR the size, or the size no matter what? How many kids that age are that size?
no because they are only £10 now and if you can afford a car on benefits ( i can barely afford one working full time ) im sure they can afford it
No, booster seats aren't expensive and on places like freecycle you can get them free. You know if people were given grants that the rest of us tax payers would end up paying for them anyway!
no if you can afford a car you can afford a booster seat if not get a job to pay for it
cabs should have the seat
yes
quit asking for help from others and provide for yourself. You kid(s) will be much better off having a responsible parent rather than one that waits for other to provide for them.
Who are you to ask me to pay for your stuff?
NO if they cant aford a car seat for the safety of there own child then they cant afford a car.as for taxis getting seats from councils is a rip off that means joe public is paying out again aTAXI OWNERS GET TOO MUCH AS IT IS. I wont go any further it's a sore point with me.
i think all parents should be able to get a grant I'm just glad my kids are older as there is no way i could afford 3 booster seats, there is an issue on them saving lives but i cannot comment on that as i don't know what the statistics where before the law change, how are people with four kids going to manage ,3 booster seats would never fit into the back of an ordinary car i have trouble getting my grandsons car seat in.
Parents on beneifits should not be what worries you. The fact that you put the life of a child before benifits for parents bothers me. The child's life is most important under all conditions. The child did not ask to be born into any circumstance, they are placed there. Now if your are asking for the aproval of the approving crowd because you are on benifits then I say yes because we no not what lies ahead for any of us and those who mock people who get beneifits for children should lose thier jobs and home and family but have to raise one or 2 children on a minimum rage and see if they feel great about there statement first and second those who have to take benifits don't really want to most have to.
i know that some local comunity action programs have grants for people whom are low income. my daughter recived one from such an agency like prop, or simler programs ask about it to ur wic program or state human sevrvies . ther is now a national registy no 211 ask them
its not the taxi drivers duty it not his damn kid
What is the point in giving these booster seats to people who don't have a car, AND are on benefits, what a waste of money that would be, they will just flog them in a pub for more booze and cigarette money anyway! The government would be better putting money into getting these parents into work so they can buy their own seats and make sure their childrens welfare comes first for a change!
