My car does 29 miles per gallon - is this poor?

Its a 1995 Rover 416sli automatic, but only has 17k on the clock and is in very good condition, but I think the gas mileage is low?

Answers:
It depends on how you drive, and what type of driving you do (e.g. mostly motorway, or mostly town with heavy traffic).

I would say that 29mpg is on the low side of normal for that car, but not abnormal - I would expect about 32 for average use, maybe 35-40 on a very good day.
Is that a 1600cc engine? If so your fuel returns are crap and should be higher I would say.
yes very poor get rid
Sounds about right for the age and after all...it is a rover. Most new cars with a similar engine will do 50+ mpg.I have smart car that does 75 mpg
Depends on how heavy your right foot is, and judging by that figure I'd say it was quite heavy. Should be somewhere in the region of 35-40 mpg for an engine / car that size and age.
I don't think it's poor.
This information doesn't sound really right. A '95 Rover getting 29 miles/gallon? Wow, most Land Rovers get about 17 miles/gallon at the most on the highway.
Yes. My Smart two seater does about 60
it all depends on your usual routes,( if you normally drive to work & its less than say 5 miles then its probly norml) wait till your going on a run for a couple of hundrd miles then work it out, but it is a big car for a 1.6! prob better off with bigger engine though.
lucky u , i get 18 mpg
It depends on what kind of miles you drive. If its all town/city work then 29mpg is pretty good.
All my vehicle's together don't get that millage!!
I think that 29 mpg is great.
try driving economiacally and staying around 3000rpm
If that is the average mpg, sounds about right for that car
anything over 25 is great mileage
Sounds like it's burning a rich mixture then, or your driving it at an average 99.8MPH! They normally were pretty good on fuel and should be returning that around town only, a combined should be nearly 40MPG and on a run it should get near 50MPG.
just got rid of my 416 with the honda engine and it was crap on fuel, 35 was the max i got at 70mph on the motorway, bin it and get a turbo diesel.
no
yes good my truck gets 12 mpg
