5-Minute grace period on parking tickets. Does it exist?

Basically i popped into the shop today. Parked on a single yellow. Was in there for no more than 45 seconds? Came out and theres a Parking Attendant there, standing in front of the car. Looks at me and then says, 'You shoud have been quicker'? I Got in the car, turned ignition on and hes still standing in front, for abot 15 seconds, turn teh steering wheel, and he literally slaps ticket on car and walks off? The ticket says I was parked there from 1452 to 1453. Is the ticket valid? Am i not supposed to have a 5-minute grace, so he can observe whether there was loading taking place? Also, isnt the machine they use supposed to restrict how fast they can enter information, someone at the council once told me that.Because i've observed PA's standing from a distance (out of sight) to record your information, ie licence plate, street your on etc., then in the last minute, getting up close, so they can enter the tax disc number. sneaky, i know. Anyway, does the 5-minute grace exist?

It depends on which area you live in to start with - most area's have a 5 minute grace time but the nearer to central London you are the less likel;y this is the case. Also were there any chevrons on the kerb ?? If there were then its a no stopping/no loading area and its an instant ticket. The way to tell is if the code on the ticket is a 01 the he should have allowed the 5 mins - if its a 02 code you havent got a leg to stand on because its an instant offence. Try appealing the ticket within 14 days - you've nothing to lose because even if the appeal fails you still have another 14 days to pay at the reduced rate. Report the attendant for being so rude - his number is on the ticket

Creviazuk you're wrong mate - code 26 was introduced for people that park too far from the kerb or double park and is enforced by wardens not only police. As for the wiper trick - the ticket can be affixed to the vehicle anywhere - so side window will do xx

U should not pay the ticket and explain it to a judge in court and the judge will drop the ticket.
i parked at a meter lot,went into store to get change,came out to get tag for parking and had a ticket,i called ticket office,sent in ticket and purchased tag and they cancelled ticket,dont know if that will work for you,just phone the ticket dept and ask,it was worth the call for a 35.00 ticket for me
It's a valid ticket unless you can PROVE you were loading / unloading. oOherwise it's just parking and there is no grace period.

It's also a max of ten minutes to allow you to load/unload. BUT, it does not apply to shopping - and the goods must be deemed to be unsuitable to carry a significant distance - heavy or not.

I've had a few run-ins with the 'blue-meanies' in a several cities. they are basically total jobsworths & arrogant to$$ers with very few exceptions, yet i have escaped being ticketed by asking to speak to their supervisor before they issued it. As I am in a works vehicle - I normally get off free as I can explain / argue with their boss on my mobile. They just want an easy life so allows you to go if you move straight away.

There are a couple of ways to stop them ticketing you LEGALLY. 'Park' more than two feet from the kerb - it's then a traffic offence and not a parking violation.Police deal with those - not the jumped-up hitlers. Or put your windscreen wipers on at full speed & use the washers to prevent them adhering the ticket as it MUST by law either be handed to you - or attached to the vehicle. You're right - I've spotted them pre-entering data too - the illegitimate progeny that they are.
At the discretion of the traffic warden. If he's had a bad day or didn't get his leg over the night before then you can kiss your 5 mins goodbye.
I'm not sure about a grace period. It seems to me like if you were only parked there for a moment, it would not warrant a ticket. But who knows.

HOWEVER.

I'll tell you what to do about the ticket. Don't pay it. Most of the time, the officer will not show up in court, and if they don't then you get off free. If they DO show up in court, just explain the situation and you will probably get off that way as well.

For a start they dont work on commision! alot of people think this because they issue so many tickets. the wardens just love their job and the power to annoy people. i know because my mum is one! sometimes there is a 5 min grace period where there ticket machine will not let them enter the vehicles details untill this is up, this is why they hide out of view until this time has expired. however it depends where you are parked and what CLASS the road is. in your case you wont be able to get out of it unless you had a damn good reason for parking there. if you do appeal try- you were parking there because its close to your disabled friends house where he could have easy access to your car
You can dispute the ticket - your chances are less than 2%.
If you go to court you will pay costs. There is NO 5 minute grace.
