Mainly because he don't know how. Everytime he tries to do something he breaks a machine or tears up the bike. Even simple tasks like going to get parts turns out bad. He will either wreck or get stuck in the mud. He is simply a screw up.
He was brought over from the Orange County Iron Works. Paul Sr. said he was to help clean up, take out trash, answer the phone, run errands and to just help out in general but said really the only reason he's there is because he makes him laugh. BTW. Have you ever noticed he never wears pants? As cold as it is there he wears shorts even while riding.
In the completely made for TV.situation, he is quite simply the comic relief.
Paul Jr, is the 'hero', Paul Sr the antagonist, and the others are all supporting players.

You definitely have a very limited understanding of situation comedy. Think of it like your favorite comedy show; everyone has roles that play off of eachother. This is not a technical show; it's simply sitcom in the guise of tech.
Mikey makes the show funny , We all have someone in are life that is the screw ball but we Love them any way , I dont think the show would be the same with out him ,I often wonder what them guys get paid there life sure did a turn around from days of old , Peace !
nomad and jack have it right. it is not a reality show , but a bunch of goofs pretending.. anybody who really builds bikes can be seen on shows like biker build-off. the clowns at occ buy and assemble kit parts and ready made engines. you may recall an early episode where daddy paul bought jr. a new harley, that says it all, they couldnt depend to ride on their own bikes at that time. mikey is just the dumb blonde character, but watch the immature destruction of their own property and one may ask who really is the dummy?
noone on that show participates in the making of choppers. Choppers are stripped down, lightweight, and hardcore. The fakes at OCC only participate in the making or trailer queens and even then, their participation is very limited. Mostly other people do all the work and they get all the credit. Bikes like that are crap anyways. Even those jokers wont ride them for real. Ever notice when you see them actually going some distance on a bike that its a stock harley touring bike? Chopping a bike is cutting unnecicary weight off of it, and cutting it up to make it unique. Bolting a bunch of billet together until you have something that weighs a ton and looks like the last 20 bikes you made isnt a chopper.
OCC doesn't make their own bikes, they assemble them from off-the-shelf aftermarket parts from real builders. Discovery just chose that crew because they are entertaining to the kind of people who watch discovery, not bike people.
