A question for all the ford ka drivers..?
Answers:
I have a Ka 2 and I really love it. I have just got rid of a 3l automatic car but have got used to it really quickly. Nice and light an speeds away at the traffic lights leaving everyone for dust!!
They are really nippy little cars and are good on petrol. Yes the pedals are very slim and close together so if you wear clumpy boots it would take some getting used to. I haven't had any major probs just when headlight bulb goes you can't get at it to change - I actually had to take mine to garage where they took off the whole head lamp covering to reach it!!
I would recommend it - and insurance is more affordable now too!! Happy motoring and good luck xx
why on earth would you want to get rid of a good diesel, and buy a KA? theyre plastic, and will fall apart before your very eyes. look on autotrader.com and see what theyre going for.. pennies, because theyre fords, mass produced to the lowest cost. built by accountants.
the power from a 1.3 would certainly leave your diesel at the lights, but youll pass it whilst its at the pump. petrol engines need regular servicing and they cost a whole lot more to service. plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm extra.. all your diesel needs is oil and filters. (and maybe new injectors at 150 thousand miles)
basically petrol engines accellerate quickly from a standing start, but the torque from a diesel is unbeatable from 30 to 70 when overtaking.. which in reality is where you want the power.
a 1.3 whatever, when its around 80 85mph on the motorway, theres no accelleration, just a gradual increase.
goto any ford showroom and have a drive.
hi there
the ford ka is basically an old ford fiesta wearing a different hat, the 1.3 engine should be nippy enought cos the shell is light and small, the engines are old and can be a bit noisey if not maintained properly, but as with the fiesta they are solid cars and you should get a good few years out of them, as for the pedals they are the same as the fiesta,
the down points are
old engine design
noisey engine
shape looks a bit dated now
interior is very plasticy
good points
cheap to insure
cheap to tax
cheap to fix
good fuel economy
over all id say they are a good cheap car, there are plenty out there so have a good look around, go for low milage, service history and look for signs of accident damage.
if i was buying one id get a black one
My cousin drives one of those (but she also drives a van for work) and complains about "how rubbish it is" when going up hills. She's quite petite so it's comfortable for her, not sure how it would fare for other people. She bought it last year and so far had no problems with it, it's a W reg.
Good luck!
Great little car, my missus had one. Ames, tell your cousin to drop a gear next time she meets a hill.
would prefer a second hand ,small vw diesel (golf, polo, lupo) than a new ford ka myself. tend to be 'spacious' for there size. and dont look like a suicide option if somtehing goes wrong on a motorway.
(also generally good- acceleration , economy , power.
