What or who are the road signs with yellow background and various shapes on them for?

Answers:
The drivers. It is so that they know what the road conditions are ahead of them.
contractors on building sites or for special functions
the drivers.like if it has an arrow that is curved 2 the right, it means that the road is turning towards the right.
these are safety signs and tell you things like
curve ahead, slippery pavement, pedestrian crossing
and things like that
They are warning signs, not necessarily rules of the road.
I'm puzzling out why you are asking. Sorry if genuine.
they are called 'caution' signs and that is what they do they 'caution' you about something coming up

note that here in Texas we have the ultimate sign it says - OBEY ALL CAUTION SIGNS and then quotes the state law !
The road signs with yellow backgrounds and various shapes on them are warning signs for everyone. They tell you how the road curves or what might be up ahead. They help you know whats up ahead before you actually get there.
they're caution signs, to prevent accidents. like winding road, icy road, one lane merger, etc. didn't you learn that in drivers' ed?
they are for diversion routes etc at the start follow diversion marked with the shape etc so you follow that route
According to the traffic direction signs section on the Highway Code website, these signs show emergency diversion routes for motorway and other main road traffic. There are some pictures of the signs towards the bottom of the page if you click the link below. I have also seen these signs on main road when driving near motorway junctions.
They are diversion route signs
They are used for multiple diversion routes. Let me give an example to illustrate the point.

If you were coming east on the M4 towards London and the motorway was closed between he M25 and Heathrow Airport, you could see a sign something like this:

FOR London, follow #
Heathrow, follow $
M25 south, follow +
M25 north, follow @

So if you were wanting to get to London, you would be looking out for those little yellow signs with # painted on it in black.

Simple really
They indicate Holiday Routes, or long term diversions - that's what I have been told by 'professional' drivers
