Will i ever drive!?

I have now had around 18 hours of driving lessons and still not driving on busy roads,i passed my theory test last week.I just couldnt seem to get the hang of the clutch and would constantly stall at giveways etc,i`m still more or less driving on quiet streets and went on the road for the first time last week for about 10 mins on the way home,i just feel as though i`m concentrating to hard on the road and forget everything that i`m meant to be doing and looking out for,i`ve been taking calms and they have helped a little but i do still feel nervous and my instructor said theres no point in taking me onto main roads until i feel confident, did anyone else have this problem and how did you overcome it?
Answers:
listen t' me kid,i will demonstrate why you are a victim of fear strategy, when england was a free country, back in the sixties, they didnt try to make one feel that driving was this terrable ausome feat,I learned to drive in a triumph herald when i was a teenager,i baught a mini car, when i was 21 i sent my licence off to be changed so i could drive heavy goods, it cost me half a crown, whemn it came back it meant i could drive the biggest trucks on the road, and so i did, i jumped in an artic truck took it round some back streets and taught myself how to manouver it when reversing then off i went,It was a peice of cake,
because there was no fear.in those days we were allowed to be intelligent. Now they make you think you have no intelligenc to do anything without being trained,Officials stifle inteligence, so lets
get your mind ready, first act fearless, tell yourself that you dont realy need the instructor hese only there because you have to humour him becaus the law.The police dont know anything driving is a peice of cake swagger down to the car in a couldnt care less fashion.open the door and say ,this is going toi be a doddle, jump in and tear up the road if you grind a gear, so what, if you bup a kerb,so what. get rid of the fear, instructors love nervous drivers they keep coming back and paying them more money. be cocky be fearless if i had you for two days you would be driving beutifully by the end of two days. before i go one last thing"watch yer mirrors."
You should start off by driving with a automatic trans. car. They are a breeze to learn how to drive and once you get comfortable behind the wheel you can then practice the stick shift.
If you really want to, yes.
i am also having driving lessons,i took kalms twice and they relaxed me too much,i didnt concentrate enough and made many mistakes, since then i've only made the odd mistake,if you worry about going on a lesson that much, then you may have the wrong driving instructor, who is making a hell of a lot of money off you.i worry quite a lot,but after my 5th lesson,i've been doing roundabouts,d-road at 70mph etc.you certainly shouldnt be still driving in quiet streets, get a new instructor.
As a rule of thumb it is one driving lesson per year you have lived. This used to be one hour lessons - but these days it is usually two hour lessons. Taking the Kalms could be affecting your abilities - drop those and try relaxation techniques before your lessons. Feel free to change your instructor too because if you are feeling that nervous your instructor may have a lot to do with it.

Try to practise multi-tasking at home - have a conversation whilst typing an answer to Y!A for example. Multi-tasking is the key to fiddling with the controls, watching the road, the pavement and talking to the instructor whilst observing for Policement in fluorescent jackets!

I am sure that you will be fine if you try these things - remember your instructor may be brilliant but that does not make them the right instructor for you.
get a auto if gears a problem, friend had same problem passed first time with auto
Try an automatic if you're really having problems, but you'll get there - how many people do you know who've not been able to get through a driving test eventually.

Sounds like nerves putting you off. Confidence will come with experience and you'll only really start learning to drive AFTER your test.

If it was that hard to drive, more people would fail to get their licence altogether.
Just get an automatic its a lot easier
but i still prefer a stick but i started on an automatic
I was very nervous the first time i went on the road but i had my lessons in automatic its brilliant you dont have to worry about stalling and the clutch. Why dont you have lessons using auto to drive on main roads its so easy i love it,i had around 30 lessons and i had my test yesterday and passed first time which i was so chuffed about.Have a go and see what you think about auto you might like it.Good luck!!
put it this way i dont drive but for some people it can take over a year to pass
just remember if you pass in an automatic then thats all you can drive. Automatic cars are more expensive and can be a pain for parts if the gearbox goes.

Carry on having lessons in a manual. Change your instructor. Go for a man instructor. they are better than lady ones because women drivers are **** (yes that includes me).

Why do people need to take drugs before doing things? What are these 'kalms'? get a backbone and just go for it. you'll get the hang of it eventually. remember. plenty of gas!
Have you tried taking lessons on a car with an automatic shift? It's a lot easier than a stick shift car. I learned how to drive on an automatic shift car, and, to this day, I still don't know how to drive a stick shift (it's really hard)
No one ever said you even should drive. Have you ever questioned it; the force that makes every 17 year old want to go and learn to drive? I don't drive and I'm 23, and I never intend to. It sickens me that I have to put up with the incredible noise and fumes from roads when I don't even take part in this "essential" modern vice. Not to mention the fact that they kill people and animals and ruin the countryside. But its worth it, hey, isn't it?

It takes a lot more self-belief to say to people "no, I don't drive" because they'll look at you as if you're insane!

If I ever have a driving test, I'm going to put my foot down on the accelerator and plough into the nearest Merc.
