Does anyone else think we are being cheated when trains leave 30 seconds earlier than they are supposed to?

SW trains have a policy of leaving 30seconds earlier than their timetabled schedule. I believe this is so they can meet their targets at the expense of the people on the platform who they are supposed to be serving. Does anyone else think this is a swindle? Can anything be done?

Answers:
yes the buses do it aswell this gets on my nerves as i always end up missing it if i have to get a connecting bus yet when i need abus and am there early they always leave late
YES!
Yes, the b*stards- I always get the 4.14 from Exeter Central (by the skin of my teeth), and notice we are at Pinhoe by the time we should have been leaving Exeter- the pigs!
it doesnt matter if it leaves 30 seconds earlier than it is supposed to, we can standby there 1 or 2 minute before the depart time.
why whine about 30 seconds?
These Bastards in the Manchester area close the doors 30 seconds before they are due to leave. Then stare at you until they move off and some cheeky bastards give you a wave.
I thought they closed the doors 30 sec before leaving to wind up the passengers, if on the rare occasions they arrive before they are due to depart this means the doors close 30 secs before the scheduled departurs time, so, well so what. Who is sad enough to set their watch that accurately anyway. Set your watch a minute fast and Chill man.

Round yer when ole Sam Fay took over the MSWjR the folk complained as they kep missin t trains acause e made sure as um runt on time stead of been late , some things never change.
Yes you lodge a complaint with State Rail. The purpose of the new timetable is for trains to stay at stations longer..if they are leaving according to the timetable then they are not complying with the new timetable.

Plus it will give the State Rail something to do other than waste our money on the millenium project.
AAAAGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH yes
I have this problem with buses, some come 4 minutes early where I live, it drives me mad. I called the bus company and it did get a bit better though.
Still, the book of heroic failures lists the worlds worst bus service - it didn't stop for any passengers because they thought it delayed them and they wanted to stick to a rigid timetable.. its true no jokes, so i suppose that we have something to be grateful for
I agree it is some kind of a swindle. The other side of the coin however is what one would think if trains left the platform regularly 30secs late.
Personally I would prefer the latter situation, like most people who have arrived a wee bit late for the train before would appreciate!
What can be done? Frankly I think to be before warned is to be before armed. It is probably to the advantage of the commuter to arrive on the platform well before the departure time of the train they intend to board.
should be agint the law!!

Mother fu**ers
No I do not feel cheated. The reason's that it's done is because there is a guarantee to be some idiot who tries to jam open the door so a friend or fellow who is running late can get on the train, this them mean that the train is delayed.

Before the Gatelines were introduced there was rail staff who used the pull shut a door across the platform access to stop this happening, so that is why the rules were introduced.
Also the rule is there as when people jam the doors open and delay the train for a minute & this then delays the train that has to use the platform next by two minutes, and if you add up all the delay minutes in the day train end up being cancelled as train end up in the wrong place. Train drivers miss their legal breaks, so there are no drivers in place to drive the trains, so that lead to more canelations. So in the end there would be no time table for tain to run to!!

So the best thing to do is to make sure that you get to the station with plenty of time.
Railway operation is very complex and is scheduled to a strict timetable. There are two versions of a timetable; the public timetable and the working timetable.

The working timetable operates in half-minutes. So a train could depart at eight-thirty, eight-thirty and a half, eight-thirty one, etc. etc.

Now, in the days of British Rail (remember them?), a departure of eight-thirty and a half in the working timetable was shown as eight-thirty in the public timetable. Similarly, at the other end, a working timetable arrival of nine-thirty and a half was publicised as nine-thirty one.

More worrying is the practice at some stations of closing the gates two minutes before departure time.
