Where are nice places to live within an hours commute from London?

We are having to relocate due to work. With 4 kids, good schools are essential. We also need value for money in the property market.

can anyone suggest a good area in which to live with excellent transport links into London?

harpenden,st albans,
depends on your budget, but kent is gorg, i would love to live there, but instead i live in crummy 2 bed council flat on the 6th floor with 3 kids under 6 in islington, central london! if not kent hertfordshire is nice!
Paris
Brixton
any of the shires ,bedfordshire ,hertfordshire, northamptonshire, hampshire, all are lovely places all within easy reach of London
It really depends on how much you have to spend and how large a house you are looking for. Guildford, Ascot, anywhere in Surrey is lovely with large houses and good schools but can be expensive. Haywards Heath, Bexley and places near Brighton are also nice, but once again budget determines all!
Brighton - fantastic location, 50 mins from London, very cool vibe, property still pretty reasonable, loads to do, great choice of schools, University in central town and surrounding areas, access to Sussex Downs, cycling, walking, Hove Lagoon windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, theatre, cinema, palace, museums, large library, great shopping, I could go on.
Why dont you contact a Real Estate Agent
Depends where, and how, you are commuting into London. If you go by tube then West Ruislip is nice.
Further afield then I concur with Kent, Buckinghamshire (Marlow, Wendover) or the shires to the North - Cambridgeshire. Lincolnshire near Grantham maybe a bit too far I guess it is on the 125 route to King's Cross?

Try Rightmove.co.uk for the House Price side of things, just put the county in eg Kent and it will display all houses in that county.

UpMyStreet.co.uk should give you an idea of neighbourhoods.
windsor
