Where is there free parking in London, outside the congestion charging zone?

I'm doing a little research now as in 2007 I hope to commute from Basingstoke to London. However, as a student I won't need to be in London 9-5 every day, yet I will need to be close to the congestion charging zone, without entering it. I would like free parking but a multi-storey with cheap rates for a few hours at a time would be ideal. Travelling closer into the city by tube or bus would be inevitable, but the shorter the distance, the better!

Let the train take the strain. You will be stressed out trying to park before you start work.
haha no where is free, unless you go far into the suburbs and are lucky to find somewhere that isnt a parking zone.
The only way to partly get over this, is to drive along the train route heading away from London till you find a free car-park at one of the stations, otherwise it's commuting for you, there is not enough parking space for the residents of London let alone people from outside.

Morrisons Heckmondwike West Yorkshire for 2 hours then they clamp you.
