Why do kids keep pressing the bell on the bus. It must drive the driver mad?

The SamTrans buses in my area are like that: There's a pull cord, and the bell only rings the first time that it's pulled.
You're right about children-in-general being rude and brainless little twerps. I think it starts when they're on the bus with Mom, and she lets them press the button or pull the cord as a special treat, and it makes them feel all "grown up." Well, in their little minds, if pushing it once is good, then pushing it twice is even better and.
Then, when they get into elementary school, the whole "group think" thing takes over, and they do it to impress their twerpy little friends with what annoying little badasses they are.
P.S. I may have been little once, but I was NEVER a child (at least not like the other children). I had the same opinion of children when I was a child that I have today.

A few years ago a TTC driver threatened to drive us all to the bus-yard if we didn't stop.
We were all kids at some point and I'm sure we were just as tricky like these kids are. Kids will always be kids, but it's all about how the parents raise them.

Thats a bit prejudice towards kids, but they dont usually do that it just makes them late to wherever they're going.

I think that the answer to this problem is handcuffs or some kind of arm restraints for every juvenile passenger, similar to the kind of bar device that locks you into your seat when you are seated inside a rollercoaster!
It would be a good idea to have a ringtone everytime that bus bell gets press as it would be more pleasant to listen too. So all bus companies have a think about this.

Because they are only kids and it must be amusing to them.
They probably have loads of toys which make various noises when button is pressed/string is pulled etc. and they are allowed to keep pressing/pulling as much they want.
It depends on the age of the child as to whether their parent/carer can explain that they only need to press bus bell once.
Really though, lighten up a little bit. Children are learning all the time and having fun with it. I think we all should follow their example.xxx

I'm a bus driver in London and whilst i agree kids will be kids its also very annoying not just for the driver but other passengers as they also hear the bell going on and on, its OK in the morning as the little brats are still half a sleep but in an afternoon when going home there are so wound up i suppose it like an adult letting off steam or attention seeking saying look at me I'm whatever, however in saying that the kids down here on the route i do are more polite and courteous then in Manchester where i used to drive buses also up the their little twats 24/7 and yes i have to say i think its got a lot to do with the way their brought up as there is no discipline in the home or at school, i say bring back corporal punishment, also hate it when kids scream on a bus as it sounds much louder all cos they want to ring the bell or want sweats if their going to cry give them something to cry about like a tanned backside
