Why do people not wait for a safe time to join a motorway, from a sliproad now?
Answers:
Well, I was beginning to think I'd got the highway code wrong. I'll move over if I can to keep the traffic moving but the ultimate responsibility is the person in the slip lanes..it is marked off with a give way dotted line you know !
idiots.
However, I did beep one car that nearly pulled straight into the side of me, the road was congested ( M6/m5 junct birmingham ) so I had nowhere to go, the sliplanejunky had to brake hard when he realised he was heading for my passenger seat.guess what, the copper in the middle lane pulled me over and said I should have let him out..so he thinks its better I slow down the whole inside lane rather than one driver adjust his speed.
so there you go, not even our police can remember the highway code anymore.
and if you need to read it, here is article 233 from the highway code, the arguement is over, slip laners should give way.the rest of you should go read it and learn
233: When you join the motorway you will normally approach it from a road on the left (a slip road) or from an adjoining motorway. You should
give priority to traffic already on the motorway
check the traffic on the motorway and adjust your speed to fit safely into the traffic flow in the left-hand lane
not cross solid white lines that separate lanes
stay on the slip road if it continues as an extra lane on the motorway
remain in the left-hand lane long enough to adjust to the speed of traffic before considering overtaking.
See, whats not clear about that ?
LOL! yeah, they are wankers! I think it is a result of impatience combined with stupidety!
BECAUSE THEY INCONSIDERATE BASTARDS WHO COULD NOT CARE LESS WHO THEY HURT KILL OR DISABLED.
I agree - and why, when they do pull onto the motorway, do they always GET IN THE MIDDLE LANE?????
thats how i wrecked..lol..they need defensive classes..you should have rammed into him and got a new car with extra cash in za wallet..iight!!lol!!
Three reasons come to mind:
1) They are stupid and are unable to understand the possible tragic consequences of their actions.
2) They are self-centered and/or narcissistic and believe the world should and will make way for them.
3) They have a conscience or unconscious death-wish. This is more common than one might think. You see it all the time in pedestrians who cross the street without even glancing to see if a car is coming.
That's your bad driving then-when approaching a slip road if you are already on the motorway you should make allowances for traffic joining the motorway and move over to another lane, in plenty of time, common sense then there is no problem. Highway code says to be considerate of other roadusers!
Because the slip road is there in order to get to a suitable speed before joining the motorway and it is up to you to be aware of the joining traffic ahead of you. What, do you want everyone to join the motorway from a standing start? because that would be really safe wouldnt it?!
There are two overtaking lanes. If every a**hole used the damn motorway properly in the first place instead of hogging the middle lane we wouldnt have this problem.
maybe you should get some motorway driving lessons.
Thankyou & goodnight ;-)
In the USA, merging traffic has the right of way. People entering an expressway can't rightly slow down either, or they end up at a dead stop and screwed whilst people are wizzing by in the right lane (which I believe would be your left lane)..
ok this is what you do to fix that, Take your front bumper off and install some 6" to 1 foot long spikes (preffebly wide ones) right behind it, so when you rear end the dumb **** it does wayyyy more damage, just make sure if you perice the gas tank not to back out as any sudden spark might back fire (pun intended) the whole plan and end with both of you dead or with severe burns
the problem is such a common one.. everyone is in such a rush these days! obviously, you get the odd old biddy who cant see or doesnt realize that cars are much faster these days than when they passed their test in their 1929 alvis!
a lot of people seem to have their eyes painted on when they get behind the wheel. never look where they are going or look in the mirror for traffic coming from behind when they want to overtake.
then you get the old fool who thought he could rejoin the motorway from off the hard shoulder from a standing start and almost write my works van off!!!
In cases where the sheer volume of traffic, or differences in relative speeds mean it is unsafe to merge, drivers should continue along the hard shoulder until it is safe to merge into traffic.
As a driver who once drove at high speed into the back of a car that had suddenly stopped at the end of the slip lane, I can say that this does not always happen.
when someone joins a motorway from a slip road the person already on the motorway should give way automatically. You should change lanes well in advance of junctions approaching and not blame the driver whom will join motorway because if you don`t give way who will? I suggest you read the highway code because im not having a dig or anything but you are wrong on this one. The person joining the motorway has nowhere to go but you have three lanes for goodness sake and you should plan in advance and be ready for cars joining motorway. Sorry mate had to be said. xx
The motorway slip road (on and off) is not a junction in the normal sense and it's worrying to see so many people on here that think it should be treated as such.
The reason that slip roads do not join a dual carriageway or motorway at a 90 degree angle with a 'give way junction' or 'stop' junction like normal junctions is that they are supposed to be designed so that motorists joining the motorway can reach motorway speeds BEFORE joining it, therefore keeping traffic flowing.
Likewise, when leaving the carriageway up the 'exit' slip road, you use this one for slowing down, preventing the need to slow down/ brake whilst still on the carriageway!
When approaching a junction where you can see someone is accelerating ready to join the motorway in front of you; if you cannot move over a lane and are going so fast that YOU might hit them, you are supposed to adjust YOUR speed to avoid collision.
The fact that so many (so called) drivers dangerously refuse to do this is down to the competitive way they approach driving and will probably end up killing either them or some innocent family. It's the same reason that 'zip-merging' doesn't work half the time, everybody wants to be in front!
Read the highway code yourself and get some driving lessons I say (before you cause a serious accident).
same reasons as why nobody pulls back into the left lanes
1. where all lazy, you move
2. we think everybody should just hurry up and get out of your way
3. its not compulsary to take driving lessons on the motorway and the law assumes we can all drive on the motorway after we have passed out tests, even though we've never driven on them before and we'll know all the rules.
Well, as it says - it's a sliproad - so there's no way to stop once you slip.
i can dig what jester was saying, even though i couldn't be arsed to read it all.
so if your driving at 70 you must be fairly chilled out,so i sudjest you go the hole hog and get some maners and give way,**** the dickheads giving it loads in the right hand lanes.indicate and move out most people will give way coz they can see what your doing and why,if not move out anyway believe me the soon wake-up and get some manners.
PS.all middle lane hoggers should die!
The LAW states that in the UK (where the question is from), the user JOINING the road should adjust their approach speed to JOIN safely. It does NOT say that users already on the road must give way as these (insert expletive) force their way into you.
I've had these ignorant drivers attempt to push me into the next lane.even though there are other vehicles there so I couldn't move over if I wanted to.
Strange that I can join a motorway / dual carriageway safely, at full speed & without forcing anybody to change lanes.. it's called the skill of DRIVING..not just parking your **** in two tons of metal and hoping everybody makes allowances for your incompetence.
Because they are too stupid to buy a vehicle with an adequate engine which would allow them to reach 70 before merging, and as cars get heavier the acceleration gets worse 114 mph and 10.8 sec 0 to 60 is normal now 114 mph and 8.4 secs 0 to 60 was typical in 1985. You cannot "wait" for a gap as there aint any if you have no usable acceleration.
