Fastest is motorbike, depending on suitcase size of course, cheapest is to walk, but wouldn't recommend it.
Taxis take advantage of the bus lanes, but it would be expensive.
Travel in the early hours when traffic is light and by car would be most practical.

You could try a car-jacking. This way, you dont have to follow any laws, and people will gennerally move out of your way when you approach any intersections. Good Luck m-man!

One question, why would you want to go to south london?
I was going to say the underground, but No its a lot of Hassle and the staff dont help you with luggae. Best get a private taxi firm to take you from North London to the South by getting you on the M1/M25 junction if you are near the Finchley/Hamstead area, using the North Circular road and going around that way. It beats all of the traffic you would meet if you try to cross London by any other route, going through St Johns Wood on the A40 will be a nightmare! because of all the traffic. If you are going to Heathrow, definitely go by Motorway M4 which exits at Heathrow anyway. You can get to it from the North Circular road.

it depends where from either end. North and South London are huge areas! From which areas?! The tube may be the fastest but more difficult with lots of luggage. The bus easier but slower! Again it depends which parts of London.. Let me know and I'll give you a clearer answer.

You don't say from where in north London to where in south London.
Some people have advised bus - that may or may not be appropriate.
Others have suggested the tube - the tube is not very extensive south of the river - look at the map there is only the Northern line and the short spur of the Victoria line to Brixton. Having said that the Jubilee is south of the river from Waterloo onwards. Also the DLR goes down to Lewisham and the East London Line goes to New Cross and New Cross Gate. You have overground services via Clapham Junction that go to Wandsworth, Putney, Richmond, Kingston, Wimbledon, Raynes Park and so on.
In fact I think that too vague is a vast understatement

I think the bus myself!
Buy a Oyster card. That way, you can go on the tube or the bus, and it costs much less than a usual one day travelcard. Even a single journey costs less than usual! Cant go wrong!
