How old does a car have to be before its xcemt from road tax in uk?
Answers:
I think it's 25 years, I know it's 25 years for a motorbike, so I presume its the same for a car
25 years
It used to be 25 years but they moved the goalposts. Now it is only on cars that were registered before 1973.
over 25 years old.
Labour got rid of the rolling 25 year exemption, it is now any car registered or BUILT before January 1st 1973.
That means if you have a car that was registered in May 1973, it's still possible it was built in 1972.
Most owners clubs can give you build dates from your chassis number.
The car has to have been built before 1st January 1973 and generally registered before then too. However my husbands reliant scimitar was registered on 8th January 1973 and because we could prove it was built back end of 1972 we got free road tax.
boll lux ,a car can be tax exempt if its 1 day old if used for agricultural use,on the other hand a car made before 1990 is classed as classic with nuonline,i only pay 118 per year fully comp classic insurance so dont mind paying tax on my bmw 535i 1989,btw its for sale at £600 if u want it on swapz.co.u k
It has to have been registered in 1973 or before.
