Is it relatively safe to cycle in London during rush hours?

Is London city centre a good place to use a bike to commute? Can you find many cycle tracks?

Answers:
Absolutley.
Remember you are part of the traffic and not the pedestrians, stick to your lane, INDICATE early and check back before turning. If you wanna be quick make sure you know your gears inside out and dont be afraid to face oncoming traffic during jams. Only jump the lights if a junction looks clear.
If you have time use an A-Z or google maps to plan a good route. There are plenty of parks in the centre if you cant hack the busy roads, which are best avoided anyway. Cycle routes are signposted and there are leaflets available with more info from TFL in some tube stations. Note these are not usually dedicated lanes!
NO
Hell yeah! You'll be going faster than the cars ha ha. There are very few cycle lanes though.
It is only relatively safe if what you are comparing it to is running with the bulls at Pamplona or telling Mike Tyson he looks like a bit of a sissy.
Yeah, just use the pavements and completely disobey the traffic lights like every other cyclist and you'll be fine.
must be.loadsa people do it.and rush hour is generally traffic jams that you can just drive around! lol

ive seen tons of cycle paths all over london
With a little experience and a lot of concentration, its relatively safe. Please observe the Highway Code, because cyclist that do not quite rightly annoy car drivers, and that makes them disrespect your safety. Wear a helmet, it might look stupid to you but you will look much worse dribbling after brain damage, and never never get on the inside of any large vehicle turning left.
Yes, if you can avoid the cars
No personal experience, but I'd imagine if they use the roads they will breath in much more exhaust fumes than those in cars with hepa filters.
In many ways it's safer to cycle in London when there's heavy traffic, as this usually means the cars are going slow, so you can weave effortlessly through them. As long as you remember the golden rule: All Taxi Drivers Are Bastards Unless They Have A Passenger On Board And In Any Case Almost Never Indicate Before Doing A U-Turn, and as long as you wear a hemet, cycle with confidence, allow yourself plenty of space, indicate clearly and wear Hi Vis and use lights at night, it's about ten billion times better than using public transport.
