What do you really think about the congestion charge?

Answers:
I am very far away from the operating area and havent seen it since it started. Yet I am obliged to have a particular interest in the scheme for undisclosable reasons. Having been so close to scheme itself, i suppose i think it's ok. although the number of people who complain the traffic hasn't reduced and is still abundant. I am guessing the reasons for this are that firstly people have become accustomed to the charge and would rather pay to use the zone than go around it. this was one of the main reasons why it went up to £8 so i've been told. However this has not seemed to work as well. more and more travellers are prefering to pay the charge meaning the traffic congestion is going to be there anyway. Another point is most of these people who complain, im guessing, use the zone at peak times i.e. 9am 430pm-630pm when most of the traffic is going to be operating so how are these people going to see the difference?

In the CC's deffence I have heard people say that its a decent operation. So you can see why and how the operation works.

A source tells me the major issues tend to be with how it is advertised and mainly people are stuffed if they forget to pay. One good thing is the adverts that come with the road tax renewals, although i've been told a lot of people do ignore this and continue to assume things or choose to not know about the charge untill a penalty arrives. But what about new drivers. I know someone who complained and got told that CC advertised through raod tx renewals, but this guy just passed and got a road tax from the PO for his first car? the answer to this was that there are signs to tell you there is a cc operating and you are obliged to find out about it if you already havn't. which is fair enough but what about late travellers who may not get the time? and a lot of workers like in hotels and traffic or other officials sometimes give out wrong or misleading info causing the cc user to assume this is correct.

Although the issue is to be resolved some time this year when they allow you to pay next day, what about those who remember 2+ days later? and the issue is more relating to those outside of london who claim they dont know about it or start assuming things.

Other cities are looking to implement similar schemes and per mile charges for congested areas. The concept is good and the deal seems to be fair (i've done a brief reading) but where to draw the line? Is this just a tax collecting scheme or do they make improvements. Statistics show the latter to be true and that the collected tax does count towards the improvements. So really its just up to open debate and for operaters like transport for london to look into ways to please both parties.

I guess it's a necessary evil of using the roads.
At first, I thought it was downright hilarious! When I heard of it, I wondered if it was a joke. Actually paying to be boxed in like sardines on the road, waiting for hours upon hours while horns honk and exhaust enters your lungs stifling your breath (um sorry; I was being a bit poetic.).

But now, all I feel is concern. Have we become so congested that, when officials (whoever they are) first started this ridiculous idea, they thought it was good, believing it was the only option available to solve the problem?

Yes, I think it's stupid. But, if you think about it, if the government had to create this stupid plan to get rid of the stupid traffic, what does it say about us? the public?
I'll give a hint. The word I'm thinking of starts with an 'S'.

Chow!

P. S. Don't take my words too seriously ;)
