Why are women so bad at parking??

I am a women and have a real problem with going backwards and parking, i don't know how I passed my test. I get my boyfriend to park now. It takes him seconds to do a parallel park and takes me about 5!!

When I was first learning how to drive, we lived in the Country, and had a very long driveway, aligned with very large rocks. I would take those rocks out on both sides all the way out. To the right, then to the left, and so on. I loved to drive, but I hated having to back out. Then as time went on, I got better at it, and now I am very well versed in the art of backing up a vehicle. It will come to You, it just takes a little more time for some of us. I think another problem is that the cars are getting larger through the years, and the spaces haven't accommodated that change.
Plus You are having to put Your vehicle sideways, in between two others, and if done incorrectly it could cost You money.

Good luck and God Bless
well im a woman driver and im driving 5years and i have no problem with reverse parking.practice makes perfect..
because they're women
Nothing wrong with my parking sweetie.

Stop getting your boyfriend to do it, and practice more. You are only giving men ammunition to criticise women drivers. If you can't park properly, perhaps you are not fit to be on the road at all.

Parking. The basics of driving!
hahaha u are a woman after my own heart!! im exactly the same i wonder how i passed everyday of my life!
i think its coz us women are more careful & worry more bout things, men just whack it in reverse & go 4 it whereas we go ooh can i get in that gap??
parking, reversing and map reading they are totally useless at it's built in and unavoidable..after all, that's what men are for
You're just a bad driver is all. My mom is ten times a better driver than my dad. Like, she can stop the car without shaking or giggling the car and can parallel park easy as anything. I've never seen her have trouble with it. My dad on the other hand is terrible. He rocks the car everytime he stops and can barely park the normal way.
Women can never park going in reverse. It must be a genetic dysfunction.
I don't know what you are talking about, I parrellel better than my husband does, to this day he wonders how I get IN some spots, because he has a hard time even getting out (and really it's harder to get in than out). I think it depends on what kind of person you are rather than your gender, I'm a perfectionist, my husband does everything half @$$ (according to MY standards) and that may effect our "ability" to park? I dunno.
I've been told that men have better depth perception so it's easier for them to get a car in a small space.

Women can do it too. All you need to do is practice and get comfortable doing it. Most give up and act helpless though.
It has been proven that while women are good at problem soving, they are not to hot on spatial awareness.

Bad driving 'linked to hormones'

Parked by a man or a woman?

Spatial skills such as map reading and parking may be difficult for some women because they had too little testosterone in the womb. Some men have long held that women are deficient in these skills.

Scientists from the University of Giessen, Germany, writing in the journal Intelligence found a lack of the hormone affects spatial ability.

Low testosterone levels are also linked to shorter wedding ring fingers, they say.

The research looked at the spatial, numerical and verbal skills of 40 student volunteers. Men do seem to be better at spatial abilities, and women at verbal and emotional skills

Dr Nick Neave, British Psychological Society
Spatial skill is the ability to assess and orientate shapes and spaces. Map reading and parking are spatial skills which men often say women lack. Women tend to disagree.

The researchers also looked at the length of the students' wedding and index fingers.

In women, the two fingers are usually almost equal in length, as measured from the crease nearest the palm to the fingertip. In men, the ring finger tends to be much longer than the index.

For one of the spatial tests, volunteers had to tell which of five drawings could not be rotated so it looked like the other four.

The other test involved the ability to think in 3D by mentally "unfolding" a complex shape.

Overall, men achieved higher scores in the tests than women.

But women with the male pattern of finger length did better than those whose wedding finger was shorter.

They also scored better on the numerical tests.

Writing in Intelligence, the researchers, led by Dr Petra Kempel, said women who had 'male-like' finger length ratio patterns outperformed other women.

They added that the differences seen within the group studied were "remarkable."

However, the researchers accept that their study was limited because only one saliva sample was taken from each person, and no detailed account was taken of women's menstrual cycle, which can affect hormone balance.

Other studies looking at finger length ratio have suggested that, in men a long ring finger and symmetrical hands are an indication of fertility, and that women are more likely to be fertile if they have a longer index finger.

Another study controversially suggested that finger length ratio could also be linked to sexual orientation, with lesbian women having a greater difference in length between their ring finger and index finger than straight women do.

Dr Nick Neave, an evolutionary psychologist at the University of Northumbria who specialises in spatial awareness and gender differences.

He said: "Being exposed to testosterone early on does seem to affect the way the brain works.

"It seems to push it to work in a more masculine way, with a stronger right hemisphere; the spatial hemisphere.

"The extra testosterone also appears to cause the ring finger to be longer than the index."

Bones contain testosterone receptors, and Dr Neave said the fourth finger appeared to be particularly receptive to levels of the hormone.

Higher levels are linked the ring finger being longer than the index.

Dr Neave, a member of the British Psychological Society, added: "The sexes do use different skills to find their way around. Men seem to be able to keep the route in their head without landmarks, whereas women do use them.

"So men may be better at finding the car when its parked in a huge shopping centre car-park. It may also tap into driving and parking abilities."

He added: "Men do seem to be better at spatial abilities, and women at verbal and emotional skills.

"It may be a generalisation, but that does seem to be the case."

But Dr David Gray of the Department of Philosophy at Harvard University, said: "Correlation between genetic features and skills may often have an environmental intermediary which determines performance at a given skill."

He suggested skilled drivers may be those who are more practised at the activity. In addition, he said people with longer ring fingers may have dominating personalities and therefore do more driving.

"This practice would make them better at these activities and would be correlated with a physical feature, but not caused by it."
its the same with computer games have you ever seen a girl hold an xbox controller its bizarre they look like a fish holding a sausage
i think girls just have less hand eye coordination and less ability to use any kind of contols
the reason for this is nothing to do with gender. a car has a smaller turning circle when the vehicle is going in backwards, thats why all forklft trucks are rear wheel steer. many people just find it harder to adjust to the sharper manoevering. its when the front end swings out that panicks people, and you dont get that swing going forward. best thing to do is go to a carpark in the evening and practice reversing. that way you can experiment as much as you like without the worry of other cars. the best ones are supermarkets with the parking bays. park in one, pick another and reverse into it. this will also help build up your confidence. it worked with my girlfriend anyway
they think the rear view mirror is only for putting on make up
I'm a woman and I'm pretty good at parking, backing up, parallel parking and the like. All it takes is practice and to get it out of your mind that being female has anything to do with bad driving/parking.
It's because us blokes lie to you about size like we tell you that six inch is twelve so now you think the parking space is twice the size which causes problems and thus you try to park in too small a space
don't know
look on the bright side u r no different from any other woman
rule 1. don't generalise.
rule 2. persevere
rule 3. practice
rule 4. practice
rule 5. practice
result: bingo! u can do it
