How can I reduce my car insurance premium (U.K.) ?

Details are: I'm a 51yr. male living in Birmingham Uk driving a zero valued Ford Fiesta 1.3 automatic (1995) parked on the road (no choice unfortunately) looking for third party cover. I have 18 yrs no-claims. No accidents or convictions. Alarm & immobiliser fitted. I have been quoted £171 which I think is rather excessive. Any useful tips appreciated. Thanks.

I did the things others have suggested and overall, with a couple hour's work cut my insurance cost by about 30%. If not careful, some companies will load you up with things you don't need.
Good luck, M'Lady. When buying you deserve to be treated like a Royal with your record, not given a Royal dunking!
Don't have any accidents, shop around by phoning different insurance companies. Go to a broker.
Find a different insurance company.
Give Elephant a go, advert reckons they can get you cheapest Insurance
Tesco.com are very competitive. Get an on line quote off them
Sounds pretty reasonable to me
just have to shop around. i know its a pain but u have no choice. try looking on the auto trader website for quotes or masterquote or a new one advertised only available noline is swift. they were really cheap. i think it makes a massive difference were u live and where u park your car so if you have no choice the best thing u can do is just to look around..or move!
Sounds resonable to me, I wish my insurance was that.
Don't forget to state that you want all discounts availible to be applied to your policy. A lot of insuarance companies will not add on discounts unless you actually tell them too.
go to www.confused.co.uk fill in your details and they will check almost every insurer there is
You can agree to pay a higher excess if you have a claim. You can also agree to drive fewer than 10,000 miles a year and that will lower your quote. Shop around though and see if you can find a cheaper quote. You should even be able to play one insurer off another by telling them what a rival insurer has quoted and asking them if they can do it cheaper. Online insurers will probably be cheaper, so Elephant might be a good place to start.
Try http://www.moneysupermarket.com.
Your best bet is to shop around on-line. Don't bother with the search brokers, they add so much on top you'll be lucky to match what you have. go on-line to as many different companies as you can, Admiral.com, Elephant.co.uk, Tesco.com, Norwich union direct. You just need to find the one that targets primarily you as a driver. My policy varied beteween £300-£1050 for my car which gives you an idea just what scope you have for improvement. Good luck
