I am looking for a warranty for my second hand Saab. Does anyone know a decent company/website to use?
Answers:
www.carcareplan.co.uk.
I am a traffic officer and this is the company my union uses/recommends. I did a quick search and warranties are from £120 to £190 dependind on what it covers. Quote is based on engine sizes, ages and mileage. You can opt to include MOT etc. whihc pays for any reapirs needed for it to pass - they have been partners with our union for a long time so they must still have plenty of satisfied customers.
In my opinion, getting an extended warrenty is a waste of money. Unless that particular year/model of car is prone to breakdown, (and I understand a Saab is a fairly reliable car) the cost of a warrenty probably outweighs the possible cost of repair. A better idea would be to take the money you would spend on the warrenty and bank it, thus creating your own repair emergency fund. Chances are over the course of the next few years, you will spend less on repairs than the cost of your warrenty.
AAA offers warranties for used cars and so do many credit unions.
Chris, I have had two extended warranties, both on Toyotas (very dependable). I will probably not do it again because I have used neither. The '93 is still on the road, and only had a starter replaced.
Perhaps the only logical time to have an extended is if you are putting a lot of miles on the vehicle, which I don't. Blasted oil companies have most of us on short driving if we can help it.
