Insured but showing i'm not insured by the police?

if you get insured online for a day cover note and you get pulled on that day by the police and on thier system it comes up as uninsured. what can you do? how fast is the police system updated for insurance?

There is very little you can do except provide them with the cover note for that day, if the cover note says you are insured then they cant take it further, good luck

You have 7 days to show them evidence
You show them the insurance card you downloaded and printed out to carry with you in your vehicle. That's another good argument for having a local independent agent who can hand you the card on the spot.
If you get stopped by the police in the UK they will not need to see your insurance right then (unless you have it with you). You will be asked to go to your nearest police station and show all your documents (licence, insurance etc)
So no worries!!
Why not show them the cover note?
You have 7 days to produce so no problem if you have the insurance.

the systems are updated generally overnight ( the online policies anyhow ) the more conventional may take a week or two.

You will not however be able to back date and its is a crime to attempt to do so.
