The insurance company is waiting for official confirmation that the car is no longer on the road before it will pay you. Otherwise, some people may claim the car is written off, take the insurance money and then sell the car.
It would be the same for claiming life insurance, they would not pay out until they see a death certificate.
They will be checking that the cat is totally legit. in all respects because insurance co.s will look for the slightest little thing to back up why they shouldn't pay out if they can find something.
My car was a right off once and it took about 6 weeks roughly insurance company's like to take their time

no there not stalling, thats the way they do it , it could take up to 8 weeks, thats how long it took for me, i no what ur going through as i felt the same way i just wanted to get it all done right away x
I'm in the UK and when someone drove into me writing my car off , it took 2 and a half years to get half of what the car was worth from the other drivers insurance company , and during that time I lost my no claims bonus from my own insurance while it was sorted out .
PS we were both fully comp and the other driver admitted it was his fault immediately !

It just takes some time to ensure that it really is a "write off", and that you have not kept the vehicle and are trying to sell it on to someone else when it is no longer road worthy.Once this has been done there is no reason why you can`t have your cheque A.S.A.P. Insurance companies always gripe and stall if they can.If they haven`t paid you in what you consider to be a suitable time; tell them you will require interest on the money after a certain date. That usually moves them.
You are dealing with an insurance company so you need to keep calling everyday until you get the money out of them they will keep stalling. It took me nearly 2 months to get my money i just kept calling until I think that they were sick listening to me. Good Luck
Insurance companies do NOT want your claim hanging around any longer than it needs to be. If they need something, they need it, they aren't trying to hold on to your money, believe me. Paying you means closing their file, which means a smaller pending, which means a tiny bit less work. Honestly, everyone answering this must have a vision of a claims examiner with one file (yours) and no others with his/her feet up on the desk drinking coffee, laughing with friends and letting your file collect cob webs! In reality they have many more files, and would love to close yours once everything is handled.

Why would any claims adjuster want an open file on his/her desk one second longer than necessary? Sure, they (we) all screw up and sometimes there are delays but I assure you it isn't done on purpose.
no its OK just they have to do this just in case they miss their interest payments on the amount to be paid out
