How old does a car have to be to classes as a classic?

Answers:
I believe that when a car reaches 20 years old--it is considered "classic." When it reaches 25 years old it is considered "historic."
I DO BELIEVE IT IS 20 YEARS GOOD LUCK :)
I think over 10 yrs, it's a classic, and over 20 is an antique.
over 20 years
Pre 01.01.1973 in UK I believe.

It was 25 years pre Blair
i own a repair shop,and anything over 20 years old is a classic,and 25 on a vehicle is an antique,good luck.
After 20 Years old.
20 yrs.
15
I believe it is 20 yrs..
this varies from state to state but on average it is 20 years, but in some states if the make/model isn't made any more then after 15(example a 1991 Geo storm would be a classic because neither the make or the model is made anymore and it is over 15 years old)
It depends if you are in UK or USA.

I think it is 20 years in the USA, but I have seen a 1996 Harley Davidson bike in the Classic Cars listing on the web. They call older cars Antique, but technically, an antique is anything over 100 years old.

In UK, we have Classic Cars, Vintage Cars and Veterans, but I cannot remember offhand what their age ranges are.
Its 25 years of age. You then get free tax for it too as you don't have to pay. Not many cars that are also road worthy make it to this age though.

Check out DVLA web site
In Texas it has to be 25 yrs to be registered as a classic
Varies depending on the car. an Aston DB7 is classed as a classic even though many aren't even 10 years old, but if its rare, sought after and no longer in production it technically becomes a classic. An average could be about 25 years though as a guide for many normal cars, once they no longer require taxing.
you might have to check it but i heard that if the modle you have has stopped being produced it becomes a classic a lot sooner
its a state by state issue. if youre interested in a classic license it will be shorter than if youre interested in an antique license. In pennsylvania for example a classic registration (license plate) is issued to anything 15 yrs old or older. An antique is anything 25 yrs or older. Depending on model year of the car of course.thus they judge off of 07 model year and go back now that 07s are widely available. There are restrictions to owning an antique or classic car registration and insurance issues of course.look before you leap.

For free road tax in the UK the car has to be registered before 1 January 1973.

From an insurance website-
Veteran Cars: Manufactured before 1903.
Vintage Cars: Manufactured between 1903 and 1933.
Classics Cars: Pre 1973 or at least fifteen years old.
