Why is the area where plane pilots sit, called the cockpit?
Answers:
It comes from the 'sport' of c ock (rooster) fighting, it's where all the action happens I guess as the connection, the term pre-dates aircraft and derives from ships, the area where the ship was steered from.
i think person who named the place first time was gay. otherwise he can use other terms like
pilotplace
p-drive
air driver
or even
boobspit.
'cause they have cocks.
Because of this:

Simple, in the old days there were arenas where cockfights were held, since it was a place where all the action took place. So in a plane all the action takes place where the pilots sit, and that's the cockpit.
cause in the old day pilots we're basically just men
I think the stewardesses came up with that name..only kidding!
In the kindler, gentler USAF, it's called a flight deck for larger aircraft.
If it's an all female crew, it's a box office.
well it would sound daft if they called it a fanny pit??
iTS THE FIRST THING THAT POINTS OUT
