Why is it in Britain that car have yellow numbers plates at the back and white ones at the front?
Answers:
If the plates were the same colour you wouldn't know it was coming towards you ar going away from you, hence different colours front and back
Not sure but I think is it is because the numbers being black are best read against a white background but the white causes reflection from the headlights of a following car so yellow is the next best thing
So there isn't so much glare from the plate when you drive up behind at night with your lights on.
Shows up clearer when the speed cameras go off! lol
The official answer is that you can tell from the colour of the plate if the vehicle is approaching or departing.
Personally I would look to see if it was getting bigger/smaller than trying to remember what plate was at the front/back
I did not know that
I think even at a distance it helps the driver to see whether the can in front is going away from him/her or going towards him/her.
The second reason is at night when the car behind shines the headlights yellow means caution and don't reflect as much light as white.
So people can tell which way you're going.
Quite hard to tell what's the front and whats the back
l was told it was so that you knew from a distance if the car in front was facing you or driving away from you.l believed that for years but now l think about it that's prob rubbish, maybe a was having a blonde moment when l was told this, but it might be true!
That's crazy, I've got a car and didn't notice! Shows how much I care about cars.
The powers that be couldn't decide between White and Yellow, so decided on both! (LOL)
Mmm
Before this they were black with refective letters (Silver)
In Ireland the plates were red at the back instead of yellow so I would go for the comming at you or running away explanation.

!
They could not decide whether they should be yellow or white so they came up with a compromise.
