What is the average amount of hours spent driving before a person would expect to have an accident that would?
Also how many hours for: flying, cycling and motorcycling.
Answers:
If it doesn't happen in the first 2 years then a person might drive for 20 years without an accident , I believe though that all of us will in time be involved in one and even if it doesn't involve injury at all it will change a person attitude towards driving permanently
on avarage you would expect to have a life changing accident ever 37,000 hrs driving. so the chance of having an accident are quite low
(unless you drive with me and then the average goes down to 10hrs)
I would estimate that after 8-10 hours a person would begin to show severe fatigue sufficient enough to have a serious accident with life threatening injuries. Of course, statistics show you are most likely to have a serious, if not deadly accident within three miles of your home!
Flying is highly regulated so I wouldn't be able to guess at that one however, bicycling and motorcycling would definitely be much less than driving an auto due to the comfort level associated with riding either.
Large trucks allow for 14 hours of continuous driving however, statistics have proven this to be a dangerous level of operation due to fatigue. I would estimate 8-10 hours for the big rigs would be a fair amount of time to fatigue enough to have a serious accident also.
However, there are many contibuting factors which would change this estimate drastically such as experience, age, mental capacity at any given time, physical conditions, medication levels, alcohol consumption, type of vehicle, weather conditions, knowledge of your surroundings, traffic level, topography, etc.
I was in a crash at 65mph, it changed my life for all of 2 days.
50, for a accident severe enough to change their attitudes, as regards life changing injury perhaps 1 in 5000 people suffer such an injury in 70 years so I cannot be bothered to work this out in in hours
Some people will drive off the car dealer lot and get TBoned.
Some will drive a mile ans get rear endeed.
Some will go 30 years and never get into an accident(whatthefukever).
My Opnion- 2.5 years..
