Is there any legal way to drive a newly purchased vehicle that is SORN. Insurance in place but no tax?
Answers:
I don't think so !! Call the DVLA !!
No dont do it, my fiance was fined for doing that.
£1000
No gotta be taxed am afraid, if is new vehicle garage/saleroom should of taxed before handover
No your car will still be impounded you must still have all the proper details Tax,insurance,MOT your car can be towed away even if it does not have one of these on it i know from experience
The only place I would risk driving it is to the post office to get your tax!
I don't think that you can because it will be a contradiction in terms. Is it because of a mechanical defect that the car is SORN? Tax discs cannot be issued until the SORN is removed and the car has been re-MOT'ed and passed fit to drive, I would have thought. Also the insurance will not be valid if the car is not roadworthy??
Best speak to the DVLA or ask the question on their webby.
Yes as long as your going to get the tax. There shouldnt be a problem. Otherwise if you get pulled, you'll be in big trouble.
No and if you drive it the insurance you have will be void, therefor
if you have an accident your insurance will not payout.
My impression is that you can, but only for one journey. The journey to the garage to get your MOT, which must be booked in advance using the registration number, so that if plod stops you, you can tell him to ring the garage and confirm that you are booked in.
You're allowed this to stop the conundrum that you can't drive without tax, you can't get tax without an MOT, but can't get an MOT without at least a short drive.
That's he only excuse, I think
Just had to pay a £445 fine for the same thing. Don't get caught - That's the best advice.
Only if you are in the motor trade and if you legally have the use of trade plates.
You may drive it to an MOT centre where you have a previously arranged appointment for an MOT.
You may drive it if you have trade plates, but without passengers.
Otherwise you may not.
You can not get a valid cover note for tax, although sometimes garage will stick a 'tax applied for' in the windscreen it has no validity in law.
you may drive to a pre booked mot and away from the test you may also drive it to a place of repair after it has failed however you can be prosecuted for driving an unroadworthy vehicle if it has failed
No way. VOSA are linked to all the other highway requirements - Driving licence, mot cert, road tax.
A pnc check on your car index will tell the police whether you have the above BEFORE they stop you.
Don't take the risk, it's not worth getting fined £1000 when you could have solved it all by spending a tenth of that (£100)
you can only drive it directly to a vehicle testing station for a pre booked appointment and you have to use the most direct route, or get trade plates, taxing your vehicle and coughing up like the rest of us is really the only way!
You can only drive it to an Mot station for a pre-booked (that bit's important) Mot. You can also drive it to a place for repair, again it has to be pre-booked, if it fails the Mot. It must be straight there, not via the shops or whatever. If it fails the Mot and you need to drive it on the road to somewhere for repair, consider if the police would see the car as unroadworty. Remember the police can check your registration to see if it is taxed, Mot'd and insured.
