Has anybody experienced seriously bad turbulance when flying?

Answers:
Yup. I have been bounced around hundreds of times. Never injured. In the 1960's a B-52 flew through mountain wave turbulence and lost 80% of the vertical stabilizer. Landed safely. No one hurt. Stay strapped in. The entire crew was.
Yep!! Nearly every time I fly it`s so bad they have to stop serving food and drinks and the crew have to sit down..
yes and for some reason i always like to sit at the window, so when turbulance does occur i look at the wings see them moving and start to panic. ( dont show it tho in front of the girlfriend)
Yes, on lighter aircraft over some of the domestic routes. I always have ear problems.
Yes. And when it happens i get the wife to go down on me. Saves her doing all the work. I'm good like that.
i don,t like flying at the best of time,s, but i hit turbulance, christ it scares me to death!!
yea really bad but i just closed my eyes and thought of being on a rollercoaster just do that best thing to do dont panic : )
Yes, so bad that we thought our number was up, literally. So we opened the duty free to lessen the impact of the impact we were sure was coming. It didn't come, thank God, but we were elephants when the plane landed!
Yes I have, both as a passenger and as a pilot. The best thing a passenger can do to protect themselves is to wear your seatbelt all the time when you are in your seat. You might want to loosen it a bit for comfort. That will keep you in your seat and safe in the event of severe turbulance. Be assured that the aircraft is very strong and is perfectly capable of handling turbulance. When conditions are right for severe turbulance, the pilots will slow down somwhat which decreases the effect of turbulance on the aircraft. Severe turbulance is scary if you have never experienced it, but you are perfectly safe. I guarantee you that the pilots will be sure they get to their destinations safely, and so will you! Enjoy your flights and please don't be concerned about turbulance from a safety standpoint. Again, leave your seatbelt on throughout the flight and enjoy!
from phl to lax on usair in 2001 over des moines, thunderstorms, plane dropped many feet, went sideways, food all over plane, lights went out, some heads hit the ceiling, everyone screamed, paramedics there upon landing. now i'm scared shitless everytime i fly.
Once we were flying over the montains and it got so bad people were screaming and it felt like a rollercoaster. There was this one lady who had a panic attack
It can happen quite badly, and does although the airlines play it down. Some people have been injured when the plane suddenly drops, apparently it can happen more often over the sea, any sea. The advice I have heard is keep you seat belt on whenever you can.
Yes, and I have experienced severe flatulence as well.
Pupil pilot approaching Cardiff Airport over the Bristol Channel on a hot day direction was fine angle of approach fine, spot on everything but just as we got over the threshold caught the heat from the runway and found myself 150 ft to high,Ah well go round again.
yes! the plane dropped about 30 feet or so.i screamed at the top of my lungs.some even say turbulance can make you drop 100 feet.i hope i never have to go through that.
