Anything imported from a country that uses smaller size plates like Japan and America can now use the smaller size motorcycle size plates.
Flyboy, how many poor sods have you 'done' by being 4 years out of date with the laws you are meant to inforce?
Think it's back to school for you..
None, they must conform to the Regs of the UK.
Kyle is right. It's worth getting the police to look it up on their own computer and getting a print out of it to keep in your car as very few police officers know of the regulation and everyone of them will want to do you for it. What's easier to spot, a drink driver or an unusual number plate?
Sorry Kyle and Co..
You cannot have any other size than the BS standard plates. There are 2 reasons for this.
The 1st is the age old one that if you happen to be involved in a hit and run a bystander will not be able to easily note your VRM.
The 2nd is that Police are more and more using ANPR, Automated Number Plate Reader, devices. These 'read' the plate and check it in the data base..in a split second.
So there is a bit of a clamp down on the size and standard of plates. Its only a £30 fine but if you are a repeat offender DVLA will commence proceedings to have the plate removed from you and a standard plate will be reissued to you.
There is no exemption to this. Motorbikes also have to display the standard size plates.
Most japanese import cars use smaller number plates that the standard 21"x6" ones we use in England most are 13"x7" using smaller digits.
But it isn''t unsual to a jap import with a uk size plate on the front and a 13"x7" on the rear.
But all cars imported or not have to display number plates.
