Its a clear, dry day. Someone drives 10 mph below the speed limit not in a residential area, Why?

I often think I should get out of my car, run up beside them, tap on the window and ask them this in person. And I could explain that they are risking other peoples lives because drivers might try to over take them which can cause head on crashs or clips.

If you drive like this please please please explain to me why?

Answers:
ok.normally the speed limit in a residential area is 30 mph. so this person is driving 20 mph..just how far are you going if you are in a residential area..is this person hindering you that much in getting to your destination? You have road rage .and that's not a good thing.now you want to tap on the window..next you will be wanting to shoot them.I have to agree with almost everyone who answered prior to me..leave earlier or ride it out. I know even on the hiway I have people pass me when I'm doing the speed limit.only to see them at the next stop light. So what's your hurry.if you can pass safely then do so.safe is the key word here!
Leave them alone. They want to die.
Middle lane motorway drivers doing 50mph really get to me.
Surely this should be made an offence.
people like that should die.
I have great driving trophies that I give these special people and since they told their friends everybody wants one.
I would say that most times when this happens it's because the person is either A) old or B) lost/looking for an address or, most likely C) distracted/talking on the phone/looking for something in the car.
I think you are wrong to take that attitude, if your child had been hit by a car driving at the speed limit you'd think twice about it, the speed limit does not mean you have to drive at the stated speed, in fact if you do it in a built up area whether dry or wet then your a ********.
They are usually older members of our society.

Also i dont know about you but what about the 40 mile per hour drivers.
I have to drive through a 30 limit that goes into a 60 then comes back down to 30 every morning. I nearly always follow somone who just does 40 all the way.
my mother does this constantly. there is a road with a posted speed limit of 40mph, but most traffic on it is about 50mph. my mom insists on going no more than 33. I asked her why, and she said, well, there's a light up there and we'd just have to wait at it anyways. Every day, never fails. I can see that green light from 4 blocks away. as soon as we get within 100 feet of it. It turns red.
I really don't understand it. I wish they knew what a hazard that is.
maybe consideration for joggers, dog walkers, horse riders, wildlife, countryside residents, children on the road, maybe seen the horrors of a car crash, just because the limit is 60 you don't have to do 60, slow down and see the view, it's a beautiful world outside.
Don't forget they might be old? - and have as much right as YOU to be on the road. Be considerate.

Old people have slower reaction times.
I think they might need to go to the opticians or gotten round the same bend once too many. Map please !
its called the english nation, you go to europe and that wouldnt happen.
except maybe switzerland.
1: it is a limit, not a minimum
2: maybe they are enjoying the day,
3: maybe they are driving slower so as to avoid possible accidents
heck, I drive slower in areas I am not familar with that I expect may have a deer, or a child jump out.
Maybe you just shouldn't be in such a hurry and shouldn't be a d.a. enough to try to pass someone unless you have a PERFECTLY CLEAR shot at it!! People like you get the rest of us killed!!!!!!!!!

They are probably older, lost, distracted, or enjoying the view!
Ok here's the thing..the speed limit is the MAXIMUM that you are allowed to drive.it does not mean you HAVE to drive that speed.just that it is the fastest you can go. On highways they usually say for example, 70 is the speed LIMIT, meaning you can't drive faster than that or you're breaking the law, and they also usually state that 45 is the MINIMUM on the highway. Just because the speed limit says 70, that doesn't mean you HAVE to drive 70 miles an hour.
Are they:

a) Asian?
b) Female?
c) Old?
d) Minority?
e) All of the above?
Why should they approach the speed limit just because YOU want to go faster? Why don't you overtake and then you can go as fast as you like. Oh! Wait! You're one of those twats who can't overtake safely, cause head-on crashes and then blame the person you were overtaking.
The speed limit is the MAXIMUM allowed speed. Not the speed you MUST drive at.

However, it is desperately frustrating and as you point out, can be dangerous when frustrated drivers try overtaking.

I don't drive like this - and I hope I never do. I tend to think these people are either nervous drivers, very old or particularly selfish and self absorbed a**eholes.
First let me say where I live we don't have 2 lane roads except in residential neighborhoods.
Sometimes the driver is not comfortable driving the speed limit.
Sometimes people drive slow to kill time getting somewhere.
Sometimes I drive slow because I listen to books while driving and I want to finish the chapter. When I am driving in the slow lane of a 6 lane highway with no minimum speed limit what does it matter. Get in the middle or inside lane.
What I don't understand is why people have to drive at the speed limit all the time and bully other road users who don't. People try to drive in a manner in which they feel safe if you don't like the way they are driving then overtake them, if you are alert and do the move safely then you won't crash. You need to be less impatient and have consideration for other road users.
Perhaps they are lost and looking for an address.
Drive half a mile at thirty miles an hour and it will take 1 min, drive at 20mph and it will take 90 sec. So they delay you by 30 sec, big deal.
the same reason these dickheads dive at 80-90 mph in the wet(i can just imagine them thinking duh whats this this wet stuff oh its makes my steering lighter oh sh*t why have i hit this vehicle in front)MAYBE JUST MAYBE YOU WERE GOING TOO BLOODY FAST
Extreme fatigue can do it. For instance try driving long distances without stopping after an exhausting day on the ski slopes (not advisable). Poor concentration levels can contribute to periods of relative unawareness.even with speed.
In most places i know like on freeways where the speed limit is 65 you can actually drive as slow as 45, that is why there is a slow lane if you cant stand driving behind people this slow make sure it is clear and pass them
1) possibly their speedometer reads high and yours low.
I have checked speedometers over a measured mile which show 70 at an actual 60.
2) Perhaps they cannot see well enough to go faster, plenty or drivers have appalling but legal eyesight.
3) Perhaps they have poor reactions so feel they are not safe to drive faster.

Those in category 2) and 3) should be off the road. 2) until they get glasses which let them see at least 400 yards and 3) permanently, if you have not the reactions to do 70mph you dont have the reactions to miss my kid if he steps of the kerb in front of you in a 20 zone. Plod should stop the slow drivers and investigate why they are slow.
I'm with you on this, most irritating. What I find worse though, is a driver sitting at 35 in a 60, then entering a 30 and speeding up to 40 only to return to 35 again when you enter a 60 again. That infuriates me.
Usually they are on the freakin cell phone. Your luck the day you do this the person will have a very good reason or they'll be a cop or something! Keep in mind the speed limit is the max you can go doesn't mean you have to!
No one is required to go AT the speed limit. It's the MAXIMUM speed, not the only speed.

If someone makes a STUPID pass when it's not safe to do it, how can that be the slower driver's fault? Come on now.

Someday, you will wake up and realize all that rushing was just a big waste, and you will slow down. It's called maturing, aging, growing up, becoming wiser, or whatever you WANT to call it.
Because they are not fit to be on the road. Any person lacking this type of confidence tends to be a driver that learned exactly what they needed to pass their test and thats it. Without sounding sexist the offending categories tend to be young girls that have passed their test and are not fit to be on the road, and the elderly who obviously still need a means of transport and hold on to their licence knowing their not really capable any longer but would rather take the chance than become housebound. Which is fair enough from their point of view, but they should make sure they aren't on the road when I'm on it!!
They dont how to drive thats the reason
