What's mean: car is cat D registered?
Answers:
CAT D Means Damage - repairable . The car can be put back on the road without any problem`s Does not need a V.I.C check .
CAT C . Means Written off by the insurer`s can be repaired but has to go through a V.I.C check ! ( vehicle identity check ) And you will also need to re apply for the V5 ( Log Book )
I think it means it was beyond economical repair but it can still be put back on the road. however you must mot it before you do.
that can't be true car category is B
When it's over 30 years of age and doesn't need to have road vehicle tax
cat D is a vehicle that has been deemed non repairable by the insurance assessor after an accident, give any cat D car a wide birth.
cat C is damaged but repairable but will need a V.I.C check before it can go back on the road
I used to deal with write offs, a category D is simply that it was unconomical to repair. Say the car is worth £1000, the repairs cost £1500, it will be written off by the insurer. Its usually cosmetic damage, never anything dangerous like the chassis, and its simply a money thing.
The cost of repairs by the insurer is always estimated using new parts, if you were to repair with second hand parts you could easily half the cost of repairs.
Sometimes its a cetegory D simply because the car is so old, there are no parts made anymore.
Its ok to buy, if thats what you want to know. You just need to get it repaired and MOT'd.
its a term insurance companys use when a veh is extensively damaged by hail, or snow, or flood damage.
