What should we add to the driving test ?

To increase the safety consciousness and improve the ability of novice drivers before we allow them on the roads by themselves.?
My suggestions:
1, negotiate width restriction at 80mph on the straight.
2, Corner just fast enough to make the tyres squeal.
3, Join fast traffic from a slip road without slowing the traffic or
causing anyone to swerve or brake.
4, An immediate fail if they break the 2 second rule for more than
three seconds.
Of course the first 2 will have to be tested off normal roads.

Motorway lesson straight after passing. I did this one. Motorcycle awareness. For god sake they have the same rights and spend some time in a lorry. It suprisingly takes longer to stop 44 tonnes. My husband took me out for the day and god did it open my eyes to the hazards of other peoples ignorance the same when on the back of his motorbike. PLEASE think of other road users
Forget that high speed test.
Lets try an I.Q. test.
DONT ADD ANYTHING ELSE MATE IM TAKING MY TEST SOON,
Night driving on the motorway in pouring rain, and overtaking a Juggernaut. Most people that pass their driving test have not had to cope with any extreme conditions, when they meet them it's a matter of luck what happens.
To use overtaking lanes on dual carriageways properly. The ones that sit in them cruising along as if it's uncool to move over MAKE MY BLOOD BOIL!
And lorry drivers that overtake on a hill on a dual carriageway!! "my lorry goes 1/4 mph faster than your lorry" should retake their test
compulsery motorway test, day and night driving, changing tyre, checking and topping up oil, water and parking
First, an IQ test - minimum pass mark 100. Secondly, make them do the motorbike Compulsory Basic Training, so they know just what it's like being on a bike. Then maybe there will be fewer SMIDSYs. Compulsory annual eye testing, and a fitness test every 5 years after the age of 40 too.
up the age restriction to 21
I agree with the motor way driving and night driving. However, I think the ability to be able to speak and read English should be tested before they even get behind the wheel. It is frightening how many drivers can't!! How can they read road and other signs?
I am presuming this was tongu in cheek.

No point in giving them the opportunity to "prove" they can control a car at high speed. The thing about controlled experiments such as you suggest is it is completely different on the open road - consider the other idiots they'll encounter.

One strike and your out up to age 21. If they get caught breaking the law they should lose their license. Also re test every five years, and compulsory re-test when you commit and are convicted of a road traffic violation.
They should add motorway driving, night driving and things like fitting a child safety seat.

I also think you should have to re-sit the test at 70, and have an eye test.
motorway driving and how to spot a speed camera
compulsory random drug and alcohol tests through out driver training keep the idiots from ever having a licence in the first place .
As for your ideas there are already talks about skid pans and off road safety testing using airport runways as test sites
How to cut off and take the braking space of a truck hauling 50,000 lbs.
How not to see motorcycles.
The majority already do it, might as well make it part of the test.
Its not worth it cause once they pass they can do what they want
