Second offence for driving without insurance.?

My brother was caught recently driving without insurance. The car he was driving was not his and the owner of the car had told him that he had included him on his insurance which however turned to be not so when he was stopped by the police. This is a second offence. He was fined £270 and got 8points this year for the first offence. Is there anything he can do about his second offence and what kind of penalty is he looking at.

Answers:
It's the drivers responsibility to make sure they are covered it's his own fault.
depending on who you hit in the us..possible castration from the victim.
naughty boy
Big fine and a ban.
he's going straight to jail won't pass go and won't collect 200 bucks
hopefully he will lose his license
HOPE HE GET'S 5 YEAR'S IN JAIL
unless your brother can get the other person to admit he lied he is in deep poo sorry probably double the first fine and points
A tough one if justice is to be done
he deserves to be locked up with 3 french fried faggots so he can be their little plaything!!
he desreves everything he gets which i hope includes a complete ban therefore making it almost impossible to get any insrance in the future..therefore keeping this idiot off the roads
Don't believe any one without reading their insurance documents. My neighbour who has just has a stroke says that her car is insured for me and anyone else to drive I would not drive her car without checking with her insurance myself. ( I don't know if they are aware that she has had a stroke
6 month ban,
He will definately lose his license, could also get a community penalty.

I cant believe he only got a £270 fine firsttime round, they must be a lot stricter up here as they're normally about £500 for 1st timers.
WOW! Can you believe the hostility? The guy didn't murder someone or rob a bank, he just drove without insurance! If he did hit someone they are covered by underinsured/uninsured on their own policy! I don't condone his habit but give the guy a break. Are all UK folks this vengeful?
No, he should learn not to trust anyone and get his self some insurance to drive other peoples cars if that is what he is going to do.
I guess £300 and 8 points and a 6 month ban is what he is looking at.

Oh his mate the Car owner should also get 8 points and a fine, permitting to drive an uninsured motor vehicle.
I heard of a fella who got a drink driving ban(6 months), his second drink driving ban was 4 and half years. The same rule will probably be used when Your brother gets his punishment.
its idiots like him that bump up other peoples insurance hope he gets banned but that probebly wont stop him from driving
An uninsured driver crashed into my wifes car recently and we ended up with a £2500 bill, her insurance is 3rd party fire and theft so obviously they won't pay out as the other driver should have been insured. Her only options were, 1) Pay for the car to be repaired herself. 2) Claim from the MIB fund for which she would have had to leave the car damage as it was for up to 6 months until they inspected it (the car was undriveable and she needs it daily). 3) Pay for the damage to be repaired herself and try to claim the cost back by taking the other driver to the small claims court. We have a small baby who was only 2 months old when this idiot crashed into her carand my wife has ended up with depression because of all of this hassle that she's had through no fault of her own.
I hope the court punishes him really severely as scum like him shouldn't be on the roads, he is a danger to the public and it's people like him that cost the law abiding citizens of this country tens of millions of pounds each year.
Scumbags like him will get no sympathy from me!!
Tell the judge he had a rough childhood and needs his licence to collect his dole - magistrates just love a hard luck story. Personally, I think driving without insurance is second only to drink driving as the worst thing any motorist can do - I hope they throw the book at him.
a ban and so he should i pay a fortune in ins for my clio sport because of ppl like ur bro am sorry but u just dont drive unless u know ur ins u'd want to see proof 1st!! and in court ignorance is classed as ur own stupidity and cannot prove innocence UNLUCKY
