Obscure Maritime Terminology?

What do you call it when you are sailing in to harbour at night and you line up the lighthouse with another feature in the landscape so that you get good line to sail?

Answers:
Taking a transit line, when you get two transit lines you can calculate your range (distance) also.
That's making a transit point
Range Marking
some may say," arrr, strike a range mate, or well be up on the dry without a keg of rum to barter!"
It is called taking a fix and creating a range.
Called a range.
dead reckoning
It's known as a "transit" or a "range".

Two points in transit will give you either a steering line or a clearing line (i.e., don't go any further left/right of this line.)If you get really lucky, you can get two at the same time or a transit and a compass bearing, and you'll even know precisely where you are. Which is something that doesn't happen quite as often as you might suppose.. or wish!
