Does any1 knw the law on carrying kids in boot seats in estate cars, ie booster needed or not? They don't fit!

Answers:
Its any kind of car, estate, saloon, MPV whatever its the same.
Go to Mothercare and they will fit one for you
I don't know the definite answer so I'm going to try to apply a little common sense.
Assuming the seats are facing the back of the car, then as long as they are strapped in, I don't really think it's an issue whether they have booster seats or not.
The same principle applies when you are reversing. You are not required to wear a safety belt when reversing for obvious reasons so I woud consider the children to be perfectly safe without booster seats.
it depends on the child size.and its mandatory.
Yes they go by how much they weigh. and how tall they are. Check with you local DMV. They will tell you. I had to get a booster when my youngest daughter was 9 because she was only 40 pounds.
Check with your insurance company they are funny about certain seats in the boot especially, most policies only cover you for 4 seats 5 maximum. Cheers
Taxi' are the only vehicles exempt from this law, so you will have to find a car seat to fit or buy a diffrent car.
The law recently has changed to a height requirement instead
of age. it is around 4'9" it think ( don't qoute me )
You may have to contact the manufacturer of the car, and find out what size of occupant the seats were designed for.

I would expect that if you can prove the seats were designed to carry children only, then using those seats with the fitted belts for an appropriate-sized child will fulfil the new legal obligation for using a suitable restraint.
I have a volvo and the booster seats with backs on fit with seatbelt for my 3 and 4 yr old. you can get seat belt extenders but belts dont fit to hold seat in if you want to use 5 point harness.
you can only use seats without booster IF belt/seat has relevant E marking (which older volvo pre2000 dont have). I have sent emails to volvo customer services, rospa etc to get definative answer
sorry but every kid in the UK under the age of 12 or smaller than 4feet 5 have to use a child seat or booster seat, it came into law so all have to use them now
