How long & wide are trawler fishing nets and why are they so expensive?

Surely they are made by machine nowadays and made of artificial fiber, so how come they are so expensive to produce. I've just heard on TV they can be up to £15,000 each, so I can only assume they must be enormous?

Answers:
the reason is the nets are huge. there are suprisingly few manufactures. not to mention only a few buyers. a few being a few thousand trawlers world wide. this means few nets made which increases the cost. the other reason is the nets come in a huge variety ie. size of mesh ,thickness of the threads, materials used to make the threads. these nets can weigh many tons. this wieght of material alone would cost a pretty penny or two.
