Answers:
Sorry Doggzilla-you call it what you like, but in the U.K. it is still the Merchant Navy!(what little of it that is left) I am out of it 23 years now-made redundant when the ship was sold.(toBahama!)
err no but ma grandfather was
My grandpa was a merchant marine
Wasn't in it, but we still have it. The Merchant Marine Academy is in Massachusetts
Its called the merchant marine, not merchant navy.
We still have one. The only civilian officer training program in the US is at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City Michigan. All graduates are certified with the highest clearance in the merchant marine.
The only other way to become an officer in the merchant marine is through a military academy, like westpoint, or kings point new york.
The ACADEMY IS NOT IN MASSACHUSETTS.
My uncle was I think. Maybe it was the navy. I don't know for sure but he likes men since then.
My history teacher at secondary sch
Yes I was between 1966 and 1974
How is it you Yanks can spell MASSACHUSETTS but fail to spell correctly in most of your questions and answers?
In the U.S. it's called the Merchant Marine I was in it for 10 Yrs. starting in 1972 I went to Piney Pt.MD, Harry Lundenberg School of Seamanship class #119 for training before I shiped out. There is an officers training school in Kings Pt. NY near Bear Mt. that you can go but you need a congressman and good grades to get in . My father was in the Armed Guard which was a Division of the Navy that put sailors on merchant ships with 3'' and antiaircraft guns on board to protect them during WWII.
