Why, now on motorways do those "police vehicles only" places have their entrances blocked?
Answers:
So people dont pull into the bays. Police usually reverse back into the bays.
They aren't blocked you are wrong
They have probably sold the patrol car on ebay to fund another money making speed camera, so don't need their little pull ins any more.
i have noticed that til i seen a poilce car stop and reverse into one yes reverse on a motorway i thought was illegal
Several reasons I guess, firstly the cars can overshoot causing an accident when going on, (I do know of 1 incident). They have to reverse up now!! (On a Motorway!)
secondly, don't think all coppers can drive!
Suspension on some cars caused the vehicle to ground out, this does not happen in reverse.
you're talking about those ones in the middle of the highway that you can enter or exit from either side? They probably blocked them off because people are using them to make illegal u-turns and maybe it has caused an accident
I have seen several of these (recently, on the A21). I have also seen a police car pull over on the hard shoulder and reverse back into the space.
Rogermewt.'s idea about 'grounding' sounds like a good possibility. The ones on the A21 seem to be very steep sided..
They are there because when the motorways were first built, Police Vehicles used to sit on them waiting for speeding traffice.
The problem with that is that drivers got to know there the police would be & also the Police Vehicles when pulling out could cause an accident. So now the patrol vehicles cruse up & down the Motorway between certain junctions.
