I have a mk5 escort it keeps reving everytime i change gear when i finnialy stop it revs up what is this??
Answers:
Air leak in the inlet manifold, could be a pipe come off or leaking.
Unlikely to be the clutch, Check out the throttle cable, maybe it is sticking somewhere along its travel. If not that then investiagte the carbs/fuel injection.
Because its a FORD aka dagenham dustbin lol, but seriously sounds as though you may have something like a "sticky" acelerator/clutch cable or worse it could be the engine management system
Not the clutch for sure.
It sounds like you may have a sticking butterfly valve in the carb.
no not clutch there is something wrong with your rev limiter or your automatic choke is stuck on . you only notice when you change gear cause your putting the clutch down and can hear the engine , suggest you take to a garage as if the revs need changing its only a five minute job . good luck .
Probably the accelerator cable or other linkage is sticking.
If it's revving up by itself it's the accelerator.
I'm not sure about that car (not a mechanic!), but I had the same problem with a saxo.
It's either the cable sticking or if it's electronic it could be a bad connection.
In my saxo it was a loom that plugged into the ECU and jiggling that and undoing & re-fastening it fixed it.
sounds like your its your Tps sensor tells the computer how much fuel to give when you shift gears or go to neutral its not responding so it go to max fuel (limp) mode and will rev up your motor
It is not the clutch.
It sounds like leakages (or sometimes blockages) on the vacuum pipes between the carburettor, Air filter box and top of engine.
If not this (Although I'm sure it is), then check, clean (Preferably with a stiff toothbrush and some de-greaser) and lubricate (WD-40 or similar) all external cable linkages and actuators to the carburettor. It could be a sticking linkage on the Autochoke mechanism (There is also a linkage set-up inside the carburettor as well - adjacent the thermocouple). This would also give you enrichened fuel mix, such that if you took your spark plugs out after a small run to get the engine warmed up, they would probably be a bit black, rather than a nice light tan colour.
Check that the choke thermocouple linkage is also set up correctly, or not damaged as well as a last resort. You will probably need a manual for this, or do a search for how to do it on the net.
i had this in my escort non injection, it turned out to be old oil cloging up the engine breather pipes from the rocker cover to the air box, cleaned them out with a pipe cleaner and it ran like a dream.
My girlfriends KA has the exact same problem! reving when changing gear and reving hard until it comes to a complete stop. In fact it just revs when you push in the clutch.
This is the second time, it's a sensor when we had that changed it worked fine, for a while! But think it will defo be that, because when you switch of the engine the sensor will reset, the problem will get worse to the point that switching of the engine won't help.
Best get it changed
