How do I connect a 240v clarke winch to the up, down switches. There are 3 wires to the windings brn, grn, blk

Answers:
First check for a wiring diagram with the mfg.

other than that, the brown and black would normally be your "hot" wires and the green would be your ground.
Something like this is probably best done from a diagram with text, rather than from plain text. Try searching on the web.
Google Clarke's model number and get a drawing from the manufacturer. One doesn't mess with 240V without direction.
well make sure the wires are not meant for a plug and are meant to control the winch. My guess would be that brown is your live and green and black are your directional wires which can be turned around to suit your preference
