Whats the best way to get other drivers from driving right up behind you, besides speeding up?

Answers:
i usually slow down or put my fog lights on,that pisses em off.
slam on your breaks,!
Don't speed up. Slow down, gradually. If you can, let them pass.
hit your hazards or just ignore them
Get over into the right-hand lane. The left lane is for passing.
slow down - if you got nicked for speeding "the bloke behind me was too close" is no defence
I don't think you can, these are just bad drivers who think they are doing nothing wrong.
When they get right on my butt like that, I just slow down a bunch to tick em off even more!
I hit the brakes and sometimes dangle a finger out my back window!!
if you have rear fog lights, blip them on and off until they back away. Slow right down to a crawl, unless they are totally nuts they wont crash into you, or lightly touch the brake pedal just enough for the lights to come on. I have done all of these things to stop tail-gaters and I find them effective!
Flash your hazards and maintain your speed
SLOW DOWN TO ANNOY THEM OR PUT YOUR BRAKES ON THIS USUALLY TELLS THEM THAT YOU FEEL THERE TOO CLOSE.
i agree with the others, the slowing down gradually will allow them time to pass you up and not piss them off.
Hit your hazards and proceed at the same speed. Don't let them intimidate you.
Slam on the brakes
Lightly tap your brake pedal (so that the brake light comes on) while still accelerating..confuses the hell outta people!

I also going into reverse at a traffic light when the offender stops behind me.it's schoolboy humour but it keeps me happy!
stick to the roads speed limit then if they are in such a hurry they will do the same becuase u get nowhere going fast and trying to push somebody else to go fatser cause it makes the person in front panic and make the mistake because they are trying to concentrate to much on whats going on behind them rather than in front of them.
Don't you just hate it when they tailgate?
I go under the speed limit for awhile to get them to pass. If that doesn't work, I put on my brake at each street and act like I am looking for a particular street. And that usually pisses them off and go around.
put an old camera (visible) on the parcel shelf pointing backwards and print some police literature from their websites and make sure its visible. I had an old inspectors hat from a fancy dress outfit and once left it on the rear parcel shelf for a motorway journey - every car kept well back and overtook me so timidly. If I experience this now I just slow gently down to about 40mph (on a motorway) or 20mph (in town) and let them overtake on their way to an early grave - then speed back up once they are out of site
Don't drive.
Pull over and let him past, if you slam on your brakes you are risking not just your life but other road user's lives including the selfish git up your ***.

Ask yourself if it is really worth putting yourself in that position..after all it is neither your road or his.if he wants to risk his life then let him, at least your conscience will be clear.
simulate braking by small pressures upon the brake pedal
I usually stick to the speed limit and not a single mph above. if they continue to drive up my a*** then I gently tap the break pedal. If that doesn't work I slow down some more.
If you are in the left lane, move to the right so they can pass. If you are in the right lane slow down to encourage them to pass. From what I hear they don't have this problem in Germany because the faster car has the right away and people let them by.

When someone is tailgating in the left lane they are trying to communicate with you. The left lane talegatee is just as much of an asss as the talegator.
slow right down to annoy them, and tap your brakes
Hello,

On those cars where the rear fog lights are in the same housing as the rear/brake lights, you can play with switching on the fog lights when you fell that the one behind you is too close. Those who don't know this or don't expect it will think you are braking and involuntarily will slow, but since you don't, some distance will build up behind you.
Or you can install a little switch for the brake ligths and flash it. When the guy behind you doesn't get the point after the 'fake light', step on the brake to make him/her understand what you meant, but not too rude ;D

It can be a really annoying feeling indeed, when, especially on slippery conditions, the other car goes right in your tail.
But don't play with this without a good reason !

Regards
don't slam on your braes,,that's a bad thing to do,,lightly tap your brakes just enough to make the brake lights come on,,do it several times, and they,ll finally get the hint,,they do me this way sometimes,,if you slam your brakes on,for no reason and they hit you it is counted as being your fault,,it has happened a few times around where i live and the cops will tell you never slam them on all the sudden,,it can be considered your fault,,good luck i hope this help,s.
slow down.if that doesnt work switch lanes if possible but go slow until they pass and once you are behind them turn your high beams on
Slot your gear stick into reverse and keep your foot on the clutch. Then wack it back into 5th when they slow down (drastically) and away you go. Hehe, scares the $hit out the driver behind you, every time!
I always slow right down where they can't overtake and then speed up when they can then slow back down again. Drives them nuts but they soon learn to back off
I slow right down, and do just under the speed limit.if they dont get the idea, i lightly tap the breaks, if they still dont get the idea then i go a little slower..they eventually back off!
