Why do many car drivers not bother to use their indicators? Do they all think we are mind readers?

Isn't it infuriating? I think it is just that some drivers have a very superior attitude and see the roads and other drivers as being there for their convenience. They don't feel they have to participate in a generalised effort to make the roads safer for all. They are the same kind of drivers who cut peole up, tailgate, speed and throw rubbish out their windows; they care about no one but themselves and how quick they can make their own journey. They generally tend to believe they are very good drivers too which is the sad irony and perhaps why their behaviour remains the same.

This is a major "room 101" for me - especially idiots who move into the fast lane of a motorway without indicating.or go around a roundabout without showing any sign of where they intend to get off.
To my mind these people cannot drive. They are obviously concentrating too hard about other things that they seem to have forgotten they are operating a lethal weapon.
I actually think that none-indicating should be a criminal offense as it must cause more accidents than most other things.
i know what you mean about the indicaters..ive also had many near misses with people not bothereing to indicate, some drivers are so arrogant!.and also the pathetic drivers at roundabouts who dont even bother to stop and look, many near misses to with them..alot of em are usually men or old people.they should not be allowed on the road!

it is very irratating and so dangerous. The amount of drivers I see change lanes on a motorway without indicating or checking is frightening.

I agree with you. There are times when I just want to stop and tell these people "Hey, your indicator is broken!" It drives me crazy and it is against the law.
I just hope that some of those drivers are on answers then perhaps they will take note of what you are saying. It is just ignorance and it is very, very bad here in North East of Scotland and in particular the PETERHEAD area.
Another one is the driver that alsmost doesn't stop at road junctions but is almost in the flow of oncoming traffic before stopping. Now that is scary especially if you are on a roundabout when it happens.

i know loads of people that don't indicate and I'm always telling them off for it. They're either too thick or just that arrogant they don't think they need to do it. I'm not being sexist but from my experience men seem to be the worst for doing this and old people.
OK I'm not perfect at driving either but at least i can say i do indicate so when i do crash it's not for that reason!! lol.
I agree. To me the biggest annoyance is at roundabouts, especially mini roundabouts. Cars approach from your right and turn left without indicating so you sit there like a lemon when you could have moved on.
I am with you on this as I always try to assist other road users, including pedestrians, as to my intentions. Apart from the I don't care brigade there are those that are always doing other things while driving. Fiddling with the radio/cd player.Or using the mobile phone even though it is illegal. The latter is really a pet hate of mine as the law cannot be enforced.
The other hate is the driver while waiting at lights etc sits with his foot on the brake. Those brake lights are very bright and dazzle the driver behind. Especially when the windows are wet.

What winds me up even more, is the oiks who change lane, and then indicate! What is that for? Do you need to indicate to me what you have just done? If it wasn't for the fact that I was watching you - I'd have planted my car into yours, and then the little flashing lights would all be broken!

It is actually not illegal not to use your indicators and its obvious millions of people know this! I get extremely frustrated with this but half the time drivers don't know where they're going until the last minute..holidaymakers etc. The golden rule is to assume that all other drivers are completely mad and act accordingly.with extreme caution. I have a full motorbike licence and truly feel that all drivers should have to pass this test before ever being let loose in a car. This would have a huge effect on the way people drive. 1. There are far too many cars on the road so those who would not feel capable of riding a bike would not be able to drive a car (and niether should they) ergo less cars! 2. Bike riders are far more at risk so drivers would truly "Think Bike" once subjected to the vulnerability. 3. Some drivers imagine themselves as invincible & always in the right and they are usually the worst.
There are millions of people on the road who would honestly have trouble pointing a pedal car in the right direction yet they drive every where at breakneck speed and bawl out anyone who gets in the way.

By the way I have found over some years on the road that it is not an untruth that Volvo drivers are the worst, without exception, for having their own highway code and ignoring the one all other drivers try to adhere to. It must be that they imagine they are safe in their cars.
I've noticed a pattern. These people are usually driving BMWs or Mercs. Such people are probably so used to everything being done for them, their pride doesn't allow them to flick that silly lever. Too much effort in fact. The only way they'd use it is if their PA was in the car to do it for them.
aaarrrggghhh!! Don't go there. I live by a round about and not only do people not know the meaning of give way to traffic coming from the right (IE. all cars / bikes / trucks etc) they also never use their indicators, it makes me mad! Also my favorite one is when people just brake to turn into a driveway with no indicator, stop being stupid out there and indicate your intentions. Oh and also people who indicate so they can move lanes and assume that they can just come accross or that you will slo down and let them in, get in the right lane in the first place!

It is down to laziness. These same people would classify themselves as "above average" drivers. I know I'm a bad driver, so I am careful. People who think they are good drivers take more risks - they actually belive they have the skill to react in time and manoveour away from a potential hazard in half a ton of metal.
These will be the same people who insist on over taking everyone on the motorway and around blind corners. They should try driving in the slow lane and taking enough time to enjoy the journey - it is so much more relaxing and exhilarating.
But these will be the same fat, middle age men who think they still have "it" and try to cheat on their loving wives at every opportunity. They'll never know the enjoyment of contentment, or the fulfilment possible from trying to be a human being. They'll try to talk people like me down, just because they are a few years older. And they'll get annoyed when I beat them at every turn. Mwuahahahaha! Goodness, how I hate the fat gits..

I see that a lot too, I Guss we will have a car to tell us wear we are going too. I see a lot of U turns to because they miss there turn, because they are thinking about all other thing but DRIVING!! I have and kid in my car and If something happens to her due to them not knowing how to DRIVE!! They will see what it is for me to be a PO, MAD MOMMY! Do we even have police any more?
It's even worse here in France!! They are crazy drivers, no indication, just brake and turn!!
This annoys the hell out of me too. It's just la combination of lazyness and a lack of consideration for other road users.
Oh and I drive a BMW and I always indicate. In my opinion drivers of all makes of car do it and it can not just be put at the door of the owners of expensive german marques.

It does s*ck doesn't it. I was watching a show that brought that up. The answer was just pure laziness. How lazy do you have to be, to not wanna use your turn signals. Unbelievable.
