The vehicle pulling the trailer is a Scania. Not sure of the alternator make. We have fitted 2 batteries (24v) to the trailer so that the tail lift and interior lighting will work independently when unhooked from the Scania. Does anyone know how to keep the auxilliary batteries charged via the Scanias alternator. We've used blocking diodes and multi-battery isolators on Rigid vehicles in the past but not sure about semi-trailers. There would have to be some type of coupling between the Scania and trailer. Also the wire from the isolator to the Scania batteries would be short while the wire to the auxilliaries would be about 30ft.This would cause a significant voltage drop and the split charge would be uneven. Any auto electricians out there with sound advice.

Are you sure that this thing is wired for 24v in series or is it wired 12v in parallel like a diesel so that you get more amps.
I am thinking that you would more likely be at 12v and if this is the case, it wouldn't be anything to run 2 gauge wire to a plug from the truck battery and a 2 gauge wire from the trailer batteries to another plug where they can be broken behind the cab when you split the units apart.
Since you will not be using the inside lights or lift gate, constantly, you shouldn't be too concerned with the voltage drop. This way when you have them together, it will constantly be charging.
