Do i need a licence of some sort to drive a boat up the thames???

Answers:
No licence is required to drive the boat but all craft used on inland waterways within the UK must be licenced and have insurance. now the Thames is a difficult area because some of it comes under inland waterways and some doesn't.
I suggest you ring the Environment Agency who will be able to tell you for sure.

Good luck

What kind of boat? And which Thames river are you talking about, the one in Connecticut or the one in England? You should check with the local DMV for the area. Some States require that you have a boating liscen and some do not. If this is a commercial vessel then most countries require that you have a liscen from the country that the vessel is registered
depends on the individual states law. look into the states department of natural resources(DNR)
unless the boat you will use is large or a commercial craft, you should'nt need a license

Do you mean the Thames in England?
In the UK you don't need any license, training, experience, common sense or intelligence to pilot watercraft for personal pleasure. You would if operating a 'working' boat e.g. commercial fishing, cargo, fee paying passengers etc.

Quite a scary when you see speedboats racing through designated swimming areas and jet-skis buzzing divers' surface marker buoys!

But always check wherever you're going as you may still have to buy a permit to use a waterway or pay launch/harbour fees etc.
