Help with hand brake adjustment on rover 1.1si 96?
Answers:
ok before you go to adjust your handbrake you need to adjust the actual brake shoes themselves if you simply take the slack out of the cable you will just stretch it. On the back of the brakes you will find a square pin, this is the brake adjuster, you need a 5/16 square brake adjusting spanner (easily bought from your local auto accessories shop) You need to turn the adjuster clockwise for the drivers side and anti clockwise for the passenger side until you cant turn the wheel, you then back the adjuster off until the wheel turns. once you have the brake adjustment correct you can then adjust the cable, usually there is a 10 or 11 mm nut on the cable near the actaul handbrake lever usually under the carpets. If you have any doubts please take it to a garage, at teh end of the day safety should come before money
Most Vehicles Have A Cable That Runs Along The Underside Of The Vehicle From The Hand Brake Handle There Should Be A Nut And Bar Setup The More That You Turn The Nut The Tighter The Cable Will Become Which Will Tighten The Brake Itself..
