What is the average speed of a car in any town these days ?

Why are there so many maniacs in cars racing away at the lights and
having to stop at the lines of traffic .it is all pointless .

Answers:
I reckon the London average is about 8mph at the best of times during the day; other cities being almost as bad.

However, as I drive a truck at nights, I can usually manage about 20mph average; largely due to traffic lights which do nothing useful at night, except waste fuel. (Why can't we have permanent orange lights at night, like they have in other countries?)

What annoys me are the cars which hare around cities during the night, which either seem to be driven by taxi-drivers or the police. The taxis are usually badly or dangerously driven, and the police seem to be a law unto themselves, even when they are not in an emergency situation.

One law for us, and another for them, it would seem.

Average speed is probably about 12-15mph except in Edinburgh where it's about 5mph. Due to closed roads and road works on every second street, anyone agree??
30 miles. but who cares
about 30 mph but some people can handle goin faster
it is supposed to be 30 but with the traffic congestion it is more like 15 except those who think normal laws don't have to be obeyed
I saw an article once which said that it was quicker to travel across London during the day,in a horse drawn vehicle, rather than a modern car.
Oddly enough, in Washington D.C. they ran an article that said the average speed on Connecticut Ave (which runs from the National Zoo/Cathedral down to near the White House) was about 12 mph in 1802 because that was the fastest the horses could go. It was a regular source of complaint - speeding. In 2002, the average speed was actually DOWN to 11 mph due to congestion.
hopefully no more than 30mph
They watch to much Nascar, lol. The average speed in town limits range from 25mph to 50mph, depending on how rural or how large the town is.
In Warrington the average speed is somewhere around 1-2mph depending on which way the wind is blowing.
i don't know mate but didn't a marathon runner beat the car when they tried it on top gear, so it cant be fast
