Why do my headlamps work on full-deam but not on dipped?

It's probably the bulb. When one goes it normally means the other one will follow suit. Get another bulb and try it. If it isn't the bulb then you always have a spare in the car for when one eventually goes.
Check out the dimmer switch itself. Have fun daY.
At a guess there may be a relay that's involved with switching between the two, or a simple switch that's buggered. This will need replacing. An auto electrician should find this quickly.
.... one point in each bulb fused .. check it ..
fuse
i think your wrong both bulbs have gone, you did'nt realise it but you was driving with just one working for quite a long time, now the other one gone its more obvious.
check bulbs first, check to see if it has h/light relay, usually by fuse box,if these are ok could be 4way switch .[indicator,flash,dip/mainbeam ]
Try the relays in the fuse box or under the bonnet
Check the voltage to the bulb, get a multimeter and put it on dc voltage earth the black one and then turn the headlights on, check the voltage by disconecting the plug on the back of the bulb and see if you have voltage, if you have chances are the bulbs are blown, its a common thing
Change your bulbs
I had the same problem one night only had high beam,so checked the bulbs next day and found both had blown at the same time never did find out why.I replaces both and no problems after that.
