Vauxhall cavalier 20 SEH performance?
Answers:
This engine is very reliable if not spectacular engine compared to the redtop that you mentioned.
If your serious about the track work I think you should look into getting the injection dumped and fitting some good old school carbs - this will take it up to the power of the redtop but you will keep the reliability.
Would look at weber alpha kits or companies such as QED and SBD which specialize in kits for both engines as fitted to Caterham/Westfields. If yo know the parts you may be able to find the parts of Ebay.
Probably best if you join a forum such as www.vxon.co.uk or MIG club
sell it and buy yourself a scooby wrx
Why are you firstly not a boy racer ?
Firstly fit some injectors from an ecotec, then you could fit an induction kit as well, then why not adapt (as i have) a low blow turbo from the GM diesels that where used in the 90's work well and gives a good increas in performance.
And as for the redtop they are a gd engine ! especially if you mix and match i.e. an early block with a cosworth head
Good idea someone said about binning standard injection for carbs.
Thing is though, why not bin the standard injection for a mappable injection system and throttle bodies?
Carbs used to be the "in" thing, but now the best way to extract all the performance potential for an engine is to go to aftermarket EFI.
Think about it, carbs give you a mechanical fuel delivery control that can realistically only be set up for optimum fuelling at a vague level. EFI can be set to give exactly the right amount of fuel at exactly the right point on the stroke and spark the engine at exactly the right time, for ALL load situations.
Buy Practical Performance Car mag, it's got great tips and advice for increasing the performance of your car as economically as you can.
You can make your own throttle bodies and build your own ECU.
