Vauxhall Vectra Estate Diesel (2000) - does the cambelt need to be changed regularly?

It has a chain not a belt but there was a recall of this model for chains breaking.Check its service history to see if it was done.Regards Mick.
it needs to be changed about every 60,000 miles so im hopeing its already be done e4 if not your very lucky
if it hasnt had a high mileage service then yes the cam belt will need to be changed as well as the tensioners usually you can buy a timing belt kit with it all in there also change the rest of the belts at the same time ie air con if its fitted and 100k is nothing as long as its been serviced on a regular basis
it probably has a chain not a belt but you need to check with a Vauxhall garage who will need the VIN or chassis number or they may be able to trace the car from its registration number. No major problems but check that it has a full service history, if it does have a belt it should have been changed around 55,000 miles and will need changing again at 110,000, not difficult but time consuming and therefore expensive
my friend had one and he said its the pulley wheel itself that slips and wrecks your engine,and the fuel pumps are bad news and there really exspensive.leave it well alone and get a pug 406 diesel there bomb proof even with high miles with service history make sure its had its oil changes.
i believe vauxhall originally said 60k,but found they were going much earlier,so now its recommended at 40k,and yes lots of damage if it goes i have heard £1600,if it needs a new cylinder head.they also seem to wear out alternators very quick.
theres a problem with air getting into the fuel pipes,which should have been modified by now,also expect lots of intermittent warning lights to come on.
hi ya mate i think you will find its got a chain (not belt) on it, if so that's good news they usually don't have a service life on them. just call in at your local garage and they will put you straight
A Vectra 2000cc Dtl Diesel ..Has 2 Timing Chains which do not need replacing, and are expected to last the life of the car !
I'm no Jeremy Clarkson but my advice to you is steer well clear of Vauxhall vectras..they are not worth the paper the MOT is forced upon..The sensors on the car,(and there are a lot of them) are temperamental and have a tendency to sense problems when there aren't any. The petrol versions are sluggish and the diesel versions need help getting over a mole hill.
These cars should be banned from the public highways as they simply block the roads when they cut out, leaving the driver feeling ashamed as he has to wait several minutes before trying to restart it due to the immobiliser system kicking in.
My advice to you would be 'STEP AWAY FROM THE VECTRA, TURN AND RUN' get yourself a Mondeo or similar.
