Mot failed rear brakes application uneven & release unevenly?

would like to know what this means and what is involved to fix this problem?

Also a rough estimate of the cost to fix!

Answers:
Damn, you fail an MOT for that! Best get that fixed on my car then; I've kind of got used to steering left when I press the brake pedal.

Probably means one of your brake discs is more worn than the other, or one of the brake calipers needs replacing / recalibrating. Can't imagine it costing more than £50.
Basically it means that you have sticking parts on the rear brakes
If this is Pads and discs then the calliper can be released by a mechanic most of the time.

If this is Brake shoes then it could be an indication of fluid leakage or the shoes not adjusting properly.

Anyhow the price will be £50 + depending on parts etc
Brake Shoes : About £25
Brake Cylinders: About £20 each
Hour labour per side at £40/hour
Sundries, brake fluid etc. £20
Total: £165 + VAT

If you have rear disc brakes, then get ready to weep. It could easily run into several hundred if you have caliper problems.
If they're drum brakes, it could be caused by leaking wheel cylinders. There's usually brake shoe dust in the drums, and if it's dampened with brake fluid it gets sticky. This also causes a wheel to lock up when braking. Mostly embarrassing, because you can hardly stop gently enough to keep it from sounding like you're slamming on your brakes. Taking off the wheels and pulling the drums so you can spray the drums and pads clean with brake cleaner will buy you time, but look to see the telltale dampness on the ends of the wheel cylinder. If one wheel is locking, stop on gravel or dirt to see which one it is (you can see the skid). The fix is to get one or both wheel cylinders rebuilt/replaced plus a set of brake shoes on both sides. Shop for prices. This isn't hugely expensive, and some places run specials from time to time.
Do they mean when operating the footbrake or handbrake? I f it's the handbrake it will more than likely be the handbrake cables,I had the same problem with my Mondeo.Cables were about £25.00 each and I only needed 1 out of the 3 and it took me about 45 mins to fit.I hope this is of some help.
When you get this problem its one of three things , handbrake cable sticking or hanging on or handbrake fulcrum lever inside the rear drum seized up , the third and most likely problem is a leaking wheel cylinder, neither of these problems are horrendously expensive the last one is the most expensive as you would have to have the brake shoes replaced as well as the cylinder .price roughly £100 WOULD BE FAIR
